The estate
Founded in 1981 by Marquis Lodovico Antinori, Tenuta dell'Ornellaia stands as one of the leading names among the Super Tuscans in Bolgheri, Tuscany. Acquired by the Frescobaldi family, the estate spans 115 hectares of vineyards planted exclusively with Bordeaux grape varieties. Under the direction of oenologist Axel Heinz, this Italian estate combines traditional techniques with modern innovations, benefiting from a Mediterranean climate tempered by sea breezes.
The vineyard
The Tenuta dell'Ornellaia vineyard enjoys a prime location in Bolgheri, in the Tuscany region. The vines thrive on soils composed of clay, sand, and gravel, offering ideal conditions for the expression of Bordeaux grape varieties. The Mediterranean climate, softened by maritime influence, promotes optimal grape ripening.
The vintage
The 2024 vintage is characterized by a mild and rainy start to the year. From the end of June, conditions turned warm and sunny, encouraging vine development. Beneficial thunderstorms arrived in mid-August, bringing welcome balance. Harvest began in early September under alternating sunny and cool days, allowing grapes of excellent ripeness to be picked. This early vintage shows great promise, with balance and vibrancy.
Winemaking and ageing
