    Kim Marcus

A chiseled red, with concentrated minerality and white pepper accents to the crisp and pure-tasting plum, cherry and raspberry flavors. Rich sea salt and savory herbal notes emerge midpalate, leading to a finish that lingers with cedar and cigar box nuances. Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Carmenère, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Drink now through 2027. 8,000 cases made.

    Decanter

Francisco Baettig harvested this Bordeaux blend 20 days early to deliver this elegant, bright, somewhat restrained wine. Complex herbs, cassis and cedar layered with figs and plums. Stylish palate, juicy concentration and a grainy, textured structure, framed by vibrant acidity. Fluid and elegant.

The aromas of blackberries, cedar, sandalwood and black tea are compelling. Black olives. Rosemary and sage undertones. Full-bodied, rich and powerful Seña with impressive, powerful tannins, yet harmony and balance. Fruit-forward. Lightly chewy. Fresh and energetic wine in a hot year. Broad-shouldered. Drink after 2022.

With good intensity, the bouquet shows notes of elderberry and grenadine. In short, very inviting! The wine stands out for its elegant, taut character, which isn’t necessarily what it’s known for (finesse and elegance, yes, but not the taut side…). Well supported by its tannins, the wine is already quite approachable while offering excellent aging potential. A great success.

    Description

A perfectly balanced great Chilean wine from the Aconcagua Valley

Located in the Aconcagua Valley, north of Santiago in Chile, Seña is one of South America's iconic great wines. The 2017 vintage in the region was marked by heat and sunshine, with record average temperatures in August and September, conditions moderated by the proximity of Seña's vineyard to the Pacific coast. Although early, the harvest was excellent thanks to impeccable fruit health and very even berry ripeness.

A blend of 52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Malbec, 10% Carménère, 10% Cabernet Franc and 8% Petit Verdot, Seña 2017 strikes a fine balance between power and elegance. The lovely ripeness of this Chilean wine is perfectly complemented by a freshness that heralds great potential. In a vintage like this, the all-important choice of harvest timing takes on its full significance. The ideal balance between impeccable ripeness and preserved freshness, thanks to a good level of acidity, has been perfectly achieved.

Characterised by primary fruit aromas, mostly dark fruit, well-integrated empyreumatic notes and a floral touch, Seña 2017 has the stature of a great wine for laying down and will need a few years in the cellar before revealing its full potential.
