Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for the Condrieu "Vieilles Vignes" 2025 from Tardieu-Laurent
Food and wine pairings
This white wine pairs elegantly with noble shellfish, such as lobster served with a delicate butter sauce, as well as with oily fish like salmon. It also works beautifully with poultry in a creamy sauce, lightly spiced Asian dishes, and soft-rind cheeses with a bloomy rind.
Serving and cellaring
The Condrieu "Vieilles Vignes" 2025 benefits from being decanted just before tasting, then served at a temperature of around 10°C, in order to fully reveal its texture and aromatic palette.
A Condrieu "Vieilles Vignes" shaped by the arzelle soils of Maison Tardieu-Laurent
The estate
Founded in 1996 in Lourmarin, in the Luberon, Tardieu-Laurent has established itself as a distinctive négociant-éleveur in the Rhône Valley. It owns no vineyards of its own and works with nearly a hundred partner growers. Now led by Michel Tardieu and his son Bastien, the house carries on a philosophy of élevage inspired by Burgundian methods, focused on showcasing old vines and the faithful expression of Rhône terroirs.
The vineyard
The Condrieu "Vieilles Vignes" comes from several historic lieux-dits of the appellation, including Paton, Lys de Volan, la Bonnette, Rochecourbe, Les Rivoires and Merlant. Planted on steep hillsides shaped into narrow terraces, the vines, around fifty years old, are rooted in arzelle soils, a blend of decomposed granite, mica, schist and clay that gives the wine a pronounced mineral backbone. The grapes are harvested by hand, often from partners committed to organic or biodynamic practices.
The vintage
The 2025 vintage proved contrasting between the northern and southern Rhône Valley. In the northern sector, where Condrieu is located, rainfall remained moderate and phenolic ripeness progressed harmoniously, resulting in moderate alcohol levels. The grapes thus achieved a balance between density and freshness, with the vines seeming to have naturally found their harmony after a growing cycle marked by some climatic uncertainties.
Winemaking and ageing
The Condrieu "Vieilles Vignes" 2025 is fermented and then aged for nine months in French oak barrels from the forests of Allier, Tronçais and Jupille, split between new barrels and those of one and two wines. It is bottled without fining and with light filtration, in order to preserve the aromatic integrity and complexity of the wine.
Grape variety
This wine is made from 100% Viognier, the sole grape variety of the Condrieu appellation.
