    Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes of the Saint Joseph "Vieilles Vignes" 2024 Tardieu Laurent

    Tasting

    Color
This red wine reveals a deep, intense colour with brilliant violet hues.

    Nose
Highly expressive and marked by a beautiful minerality, the nose reveals subtle floral notes, particularly violet. It then opens onto aromas of black fruits such as blackberry and black cherry, enhanced by touches of warm spices and delicate hints of roasted meat derived from its ageing.

    Palate
Medium-bodied, the palate seduces with its velvety texture and remarkably fine tannins. The acidity, perfectly integrated, brings a lovely balance to the whole. The mid-palate reveals remarkable density and concentration, leading to a persistent finish where black fruit flavours intertwine with a brilliant minerality.

    Food and Wine Pairing

This wine pairs wonderfully with grilled red meats, feathered game, or mature cheeses with a mineral profile.

    Service and Storage

To fully appreciate this 2024 vintage, it is recommended to decant it approximately one hour before tasting and to serve it at a temperature between 15 and 17°C. Boasting excellent ageing potential, this wine can be cellared for many years.

The Mineral Expression and Concentration of a Wine from the Rhône Valley

    The Estate

Founded in 1996 in Lourmarin by Michel Tardieu and Dominique Laurent, the house of Tardieu Laurent has established itself as a benchmark of haute-couture négoce. Today, the estate is entirely owned and run by the Tardieu family, with Michel at the helm, supported by his son Bastien, an oenologist. Owning no vines of its own, the estate meticulously selects the finest grapes from old parcels to produce cuvées vinified with a minimalist approach that respects the terroir.

    The Vineyard

This wine comes from the Saint-Joseph appellation, located in the northern part of the valley. The vines grow on steep slopes with heterogeneous soils, made up of hard granite and deeply decomposed granite. The grapes come from historic plots such as La Madonne, Sainte-Épine, Les Oliviers, Chanson, and Saint-Pierre-de-Boeuf. These terroirs benefit from ideal sunshine and cool nights. The Syrah vines have an average age of sixty years, while the Serine vines are a century old.

    The Vintage

The year 2024 was characterised by mild, warm temperatures without excess, but with high humidity that required rigorous work in the vineyards. These climatic conditions led to particularly low yields. Nevertheless, this climatic stress resulted in berries of great concentration.

    Winemaking and Ageing

Vinification is carried out with a minimally interventionist approach. The harvest is 50% destemmed, with the other half retaining its stems during fermentation. Ageing begins with a period of twelve months in new and one-year-old oak barrels sourced from the forests of Allier and Tronçais. The wine is then transferred to large wooden foudres for an additional eight months of maturation. Bottling takes place without fining and generally without filtration.

    Grape Varieties

This wine is made from Syrah and Serine.
