A Saint-Joseph from Tardieu-Laurent, Combining Density and Freshness
The Estate
Maison Tardieu-Laurent was born in the mid-1990s from the meeting of Michel Tardieu and the Burgundy négociant Dominique Laurent, before its own cellar was established in Lourmarin, in the Luberon, in 1996. Now run by the Tardieu family, with Michel supported by his children Bastien and Camille, the Maison has built a reputation as a high-end négociant-éleveur, selecting the finest old vines of the Rhône Valley, from north to south, for a long and meticulous ageing process inspired by Burgundian practices.
The Vineyard
The Saint-Joseph "Vieilles Vignes" comes from parcels located on the steep granitic slopes of the appellation, close to Chavanay, Sainte-Epine and Saint-Jean-de-Muzols. The soils, made up of hard, decomposing granite, give the Syrah a very pure, mineral and aromatic expression. The particularly old vines reflect exceptional plant material, a guarantee of concentration and complexity.
The Vintage
The 2025 vintage proved paradoxical yet ultimately harmonious. A mild, wet winter allowed the soils to become saturated with water, building up precious reserves for the rest of the season. Rainfall remained moderate thereafter, and phenolic and physiological ripeness progressed in sync, resulting in ripe grapes without excess.
Winemaking and Ageing
The Saint-Joseph "Vieilles Vignes" 2025 is vinified with part of the harvest as whole bunches. Ageing takes place in two stages: several months in barrels from the forests of Tronçais and Allier, followed by several months in foudres, in keeping with the Burgundian philosophy so dear to Maison Tardieu-Laurent.
Grape Varieties
This wine is made from 100% Syrah, the emblematic grape variety of the Saint-Joseph appellation and the northern Rhône Valley.
