    Description

Characteristics and tasting notes for the Secret del Priorat 2023 by Torres

    Tasting notes

    Appearance
Deep ruby robe, both luminous and particularly attractive.

    Nose
Elegant and highly expressive, it reveals indulgent aromas of fig jam intertwined with spicy notes of clove. The whole is underpinned by a delicately toasted background and a subtle hint of orange zest.

    Palate
Flavourful and ample, it delivers a superb balance thanks to acidity of great finesse.

    Food and wine pairings
This red wine pairs beautifully with grilled meats, dishes in pepper sauce or seasoned with aromatic herbs such as thyme and rosemary. It also complements aubergine-based recipes and semi-hard cheeses very well.

    Serving and cellaring
It is recommended to serve this wine at a temperature between 14 and 16ºC. Endowed with fine potential, it can be kept in the cellar to be enjoyed until around 2033.

The authentic expression of Priorat terroir by Familia Torres

    The estate
Founded in 1870 in Vilafranca del Penedès, the bodega Familia Torres is a genuine institution in Catalonia. Although its winegrowing roots go back to 1559, it was at the end of the 19th century that the company truly took off. Today led by Miguel A. Torres as chairman and Miguel Torres Maczassek as general manager, the house cultivates around a thousand hectares of certified organic vineyards. Recognised worldwide, this prestigious brand stands out for its pioneering commitment to regenerative viticulture and climate action.

    The vineyard
The grapes come from a mosaic of plots spread across six municipalities within the Priorat appellation. The vines are planted on steep slopes known as costers, made up of shallow soils of carboniferous schist typical of the region, the famous llicorella. This singular terroir is characterised by rapid drainage and very low water retention, offering demanding conditions that favour the concentration of the berries.

    The vintage
The year 2023 was marked in Spain by temperatures above the usual averages, with an annual temperature of 16.2ºC and heatwave episodes in July and August. Rainfall was particularly scarce, totalling only 320 mm over the year, which represents a water deficit of 40%. These hot, dry conditions led to an early and homogeneous ripening of the grapes.

    Winemaking and aging
To produce this wine, the harvest undergoes skin maceration for 10 to 12 days. Alcoholic fermentation then takes place in stainless steel tanks for 7 to 8 days, at a controlled temperature between 25 and 26ºC. Finally, the wine benefits from 12 months of aging in second-use French oak barrels.

    Grape varieties
This blend is composed of Garnacha, Cariñena, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah.
