The authentic expression of Tuscany by Antinori - Villa Antinori
The estate
Created in 1928 by the Marquis Niccolò Antinori, the Villa Antinori brand represents the signature wine of this illustrious family, whose winemaking history in Tuscany dates back to 1385. Today, the estate is led by the twenty-seventh generation, embodied by Albiera, president, along with her sisters Allegra and Alessia Antinori, accompanied by Renzo Cotarella, managing director and oenologist. This historic estate stands out for its ability to combine a deep-rooted tradition with constant innovation, while firmly committing to sustainable viticulture in order to best express the excellence of its terroir.
The vineyard
The vines used for this IGT Toscana wine thrive on the gentle hills of San Casciano Val di Pesa, in the province of Florence. This terroir benefits from generous sunshine and seasonal temperature variations that are ideal for the ripening of the berries. The soils are highly varied, with a composition ranging from clay formations to limestone lands.
The vintage
The 2023 year began with a mild but rainy winter and spring. Cold spells in April slowed vegetative development, followed by cooler-than-normal months of May and June with frequent showers, delaying flowering by about a week. Fortunately, the accumulated underground water reserves enabled the vines to withstand a hot, dry summer, thereby promoting excellent cluster development through to the harvest.
Vinification and ageing
The harvest extends from mid-September until 10 October. Once destemmed and gently crushed, the grapes for Villa Antinori 2023 are placed in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Alcoholic fermentation takes place over five to seven days at a temperature kept below 25°C in order to preserve the aromas and extract supple tannins. After skin maceration of eight to twelve days and malolactic fermentation completed in November, the wine is aged in French and Hungarian oak barrels before bottling, which begins in July 2025.
