    Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of the Meursault 2023 by Vincent Girardin

    Tasting notes

    Colour
Clear and bright, the colour reveals an elegant golden-green hue.

    Nose
Beautifully complex, the bouquet reveals aromas of yellow fruits such as apple and pear, enhanced by the freshness of citrus. Floral touches of acacia intertwine with subtle mineral notes, roasted almond and delicately toasted hazelnut.

    Palate
The palate opens generously and smoothly, offering a rich, unctuous texture. A vibrant acidity perfectly balances this fullness, highlighting delicious flavours of hazelnut alongside well-integrated oaky notes. The finish stands out for its remarkable length and silky elegance.

    Food and wine pairing

This white wine pairs wonderfully with fish in beurre blanc sauce, shellfish such as lobster or langoustines, as well as smoked salmon. It will also brilliantly accompany snails à la bourguignonne, rich poultry dishes, mushroom-based dishes or mild blue cheeses such as Gorgonzola.

    Service and storage

Approachable in its youth for its vibrant freshness, this Meursault 2023 also boasts a fine structure that will allow it to age gracefully in the cellar and be enjoyed until around 2033.

The pure and elegant expression of a great white wine from Meursault by Vincent Girardin

    The estate

Founded in 1980 by Vincent Girardin with just two hectares of vines, the eponymous house is located in Meursault, at the heart of Burgundy. Renowned for its haute couture approach and the purity of its wines, the estate now spans a vast and diverse vineyard. Since 2012, the estate has been owned by Jean-Pierre Nié, director of the Compagnie des Vins d'Autrefois, while Eric Germain, the historic winemaker, and Marco Caschera are co-owners. Vincent Girardin continues to lend his expertise as a consultant, thus perpetuating the excellence of this institution.

    The vineyard

The grapes for this cuvée come from several carefully selected plots within the Meursault appellation, including the renowned Narvaux terroirs. The estate favours environmentally responsible viticulture, drawing on biodynamic principles and sustainable farming practices, with deep ploughing to encourage root growth and the authentic expression of the limestone soils.

    The vintage

2023 stood out for its particularly favourable weather conditions. Following a favourable spring that allowed for a harmonious flowering, summer brought intense heat tempered by cool nights. These temperature variations, combined with balanced rainfall, promoted optimal ripening and exceptional concentration in the berries ahead of an early harvest that began in the first days of September.

    Winemaking and aging

The grapes for the Meursault 2023 are hand-harvested in small crates, followed by extremely rigorous sorting to retain only the finest berries. Winemaking follows a minimal-intervention approach. Aging takes place over 18 months in oak barrels, partly new and partly used, without any lees stirring in order to preserve the wine's energy and freshness. Malolactic fermentation is carried out under careful control, and the wine is bottled without fining or physical filtration.

    Grape variety

    Chardonnay (100%).
