    Description

Tasting Notes and Recommendations for Riesling Trocken 2022 from Weingut Dönnhoff

    Tasting

    Color
The wine shows a bright, pale hue, enhanced by delicate light-green highlights.

    Nose
The bouquet reveals an elegant, fresh aromatic expression, marked by notes of green apple and white flowers. With aeration, the nose gains mouthwatering complexity, with nuances of citrus, flint, and subtle hints of white pepper.

    Palate
On the palate, the wine stands out for its freshness and well-defined character. The light texture is supported by perfectly integrated acidity that brings energy to the whole. Silky elegance pairs with remarkable mineral density, the signature of an exceptional terroir of red sandstone and steep slopes. Vibrant minerality and moderate alcohol contribute to the overall balance of this cuvée.

    Serving and Cellaring

Riesling Trocken 2022 can be enjoyed now and through around 2035.

A Nahe Riesling Combining Freshness and Minerality

    The Estate

Weingut Dönnhoff is based in Oberhausen an der Nahe and spans around 25 hectares of vineyards planted predominantly with riesling. Helmut Dönnhoff, a legendary figure of the German vineyard, elevated the estate to worldwide benchmark status starting in 1971. Since 2007, his son Cornelius has carried on the family’s excellence and has amassed numerous “best winemaker in the country” awards since 2014. The estate stands out for its outstanding terroirs and its philosophy of balance, favoring low yields and authentic expression.

    The Vineyard

The grapes come from plots located in Bad Kreuznach, Roxheim, Oberhausen, Niederhausen, Schloßböckelheim and Norheim, at the heart of the Nahe region. The vineyard sits on stony soils composed of weathered volcanic rocks (porphyry and melaphyre), slate, and quartzite. Vines aged 15 to 30 years produce controlled yields of around 50 hl/ha.

    Vinification and Aging

The harvest is carried out by hand with selective picking. Riesling Trocken 2022 is fermented and then aged in stainless-steel tanks and large oak casks, helping preserve fruit purity and the terroir’s mineral expression.

    Grape Variety

This German wine is 100% riesling.
