    Wine Spectator

    James Molesworth

Rather rich, with coconut, green fig, creamed pear, yellow apple and jasmine notes all melded together, picking up light acacia and elderflower accents on the finish. Very, very showy, with the underlying cut to pull it off. Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon. Best from 2019 through 2026. 833 cases made.

    Decanter

When the Lur-Saluces family owned Yquem, this dry wine would be made from unbotrytised or lightly botrytised grapes and aged in new oak. It was, frankly, rather bizarre. Under its new owners, Ygrec’s style has been modified, with very little botrytis influence and ageing in only 20 percent new barriques. This gives a fresher style while retaining its own personality. This has toasty grapefruit aromas, and considerable severity on the palate. Driven by firm acidity, it’s very youthful and persistent, though it still has power rather than finesse. An acquired taste, but it’s quite unlike other dry whites from the Graves.

    James Suckling

A unique dry white Bordeaux with a cool, fragrant and vibrant personality. Lots of candied citrus and pineapple with hints of almonds and finely chopped fresh herbs. Although quite voluptuous and creamy on the palate, you’d never guess that it had 14.5 percent alcohol, because of the wonderful pineapple and lemon freshness. Just a whisker of sweetness at the long, elegant finish. A blend of 75 percent sauvignon blanc and 25 percent semillon. Drink or hold.

Pale yellow in color, yellow citrus, lemongrass, pineapple, lime, crushed rock and floral notes open the nose. The green apple and citrus palate is fresh and refreshing. The wine was made from a blend of 70% Sauvignon Blanc and 30% Semillon. This splash of energetic, crisp fruit on the palate comes with sensations of lightly honeyed tropical fruit and stone.

    La RVF

It is making great strides in its balance, less marked by sulfur than in previous vintages. It retains a hint of sweetness thanks to a few grams of residual sugar. A wine of great finesse.

    Yves Beck

Pale yellow with green highlights. Complex, filigreed bouquet with floral and fruity touches. Citrus notes, mandarin zest. Mint and white pepper. On the palate, the wine impresses with its aromatic intensity and structure. The latter provides solid support, accompanied by a pleasant bitterness. Fruity, mineral and persistent finish.

    Jean-Marc Quarin

Logo on the cork: AL Light color. Discreet and rather reductive nose. The palate has a finely textured feel, very fruity body, with a flavor slightly marked by Sauvignon. The length is good and the overall expression a bit discreet.

A Bordeaux White Wine of great tension

    The property

Located south of Bordeaux, the Château d'Yquem is one of the most beautiful references among the great wines of Sauternes. This legendary Premier Cru Classé Supérieur enjoys an exceptional terroir and gives birth to wines that are sought after worldwide.

    The vineyard

Château d’Yquem is an extraordinary place, rich in a hundred hectares of Sauternes vineyards planted on a mosaic of gravelly-sandy terroirs.

    The wine

Produced under the Bordeaux White Wines appellation, Y is an exceptional wine, limited to a production of only 10,000 bottles per vintage. Coming from the same prestigious vineyards as Château d'Yquem, it stands out for its specific harvest and production method.

    The vintage
The 2016 vintage is marked by a hot and dry summer, where the vine resisted well thanks to its water reserves. The flowering was late and yet, the harvest began as early as September 5, ending on September 13 just before the heavy rains that fell in the region. This year, the sémillons were as early as the sauvignons.

    Vinification and aging

In the cellar, this wine benefits from careful vinification including gentle and precise pressing, meticulous settling, and temperature-controlled fermentation. The aging is carried out on lees in barrels (80% in barrels of a Yquem wine and 20% new) with regular stirring.

    Blend

    Sauvignon blanc (75%)
    Sémillon (25%).
