    Description

Tasting notes and characteristics of Antinori - Prunotto's Barbera d'Alba 2024

    Tasting

    Appearance
With a vibrant ruby-red colour, the wine displays violet highlights that underline its youth.

    Nose
The aromatic bouquet is generous and welcoming, dominated by intense notes of black fruits such as blackberry and cherry. Subtle floral and spicy touches, accompanied by light toasted aromas from its time in barrel, add further complexity to the whole.

    Palate
The attack is broad and balanced, offering a juicy and vibrant mid-palate. This Barbera d'Alba stands out for its elegance and remarkable freshness, supported by a fine structure that is never weighed down by excessive extraction.

    Food and wine pairings

Thanks to its lovely acidity and fruity profile, this Barbera d'Alba pairs wonderfully with a creamy mushroom or truffle risotto, braised meats, as well as pasta dishes with cream or tomato sauce. It will also accompany herb-grilled dishes or lightly spiced fare beautifully.

    Serving and cellaring

To fully appreciate all the aromatic complexity of this Barbera d'Alba 2024, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 15 and 20°C.

The elegance and freshness of a great Piedmont wine by Antinori - Prunotto

    The estate

Founded in 1904 as a cooperative, the Prunotto estate is a historic figure of Piedmont. Fully acquired in 1994, it is currently owned by the renowned Marchesi Antinori family. The estate, whose vineyard stretches over approximately 78 hectares spread across the region's finest areas, is recognised for its spirit of innovation. Indeed, the brand stood out as early as 1961 by becoming a pioneer in the creation of single-vineyard wines (the "cru" concept). Today, Antinori - Prunotto continues to embody winemaking excellence by showcasing the Piedmontese terroir.

    The vineyard

The grapes used to produce this Barbera d'Alba come from plots located in the Alba region. The vines thrive on specific terroirs whose soils are mainly composed of clay and sand. This particular geology provides both structure and good water retention thanks to the clay, while ensuring excellent drainage favoured by the sand.

    The vintage

The year 2024 began with a mild winter punctuated by showers, allowing the soil's water reserves to be replenished after the previous summer's drought. Bud break unfolded optimally under mild temperatures. Late spring and summer brought further rainfall, requiring rigorous work in the vineyard. The grape clusters were meticulously thinned to ensure sugar concentration, freshness and perfect sanitary condition of the berries up to the harvest, which took place from 27 September to 9 October.

    Winemaking and ageing

Upon arrival at the cellar, the perfectly healthy and balanced grapes are destemmed and then crushed. Skin maceration takes place over a period of five to seven days at a controlled temperature between 28 and 30°C in order to extract colour and aromas optimally. Malolactic fermentation is completed in mid-December. This Italian red wine then benefits from a short ageing in oak barrels. In spring, the various lots from the different plots are blended before bottling.
