The estate

Daughter of one of the greatest winegrowing families in Burgundy, Francine Picard took over the estate historically run by her father in the late 1990s. The Au Pied du Mont Chauve estate stretches across the villages of Chassagne-Montrachet, Puligny-Montrachet and Saint-Aubin, at the heart of the finest climats and terroirs of winegrowing Burgundy.

Driven by a desire for synergy between the land and the wines, Francine Picard cultivates her plots in accordance with the principles of biodynamics and works passionately and with great care to produce wines that reflect the identity of their terroir.

From a 110-hectare vineyard farmed using "agro-ecology", the chardonnay and pinot noir of the Au Pied du Mont Chauve estate are renowned for their quality, precision and elegance.

Since May 2019, Antoine Lepetit de la Bigne, a specialist in biodynamic viticulture, has joined the team of this illustrious Burgundian estate as Technical Director. 

The vineyard

"Le Charmois" 2020 red from Au Pied du Mont Chauve is a Saint-Aubin wine 1er cru produced from a 2.30-hectare plot located on the hillside overlooking the village of Chassagne-Montrachet. Planted at 250 metres above sea level, the vines, over 50 years old, grow on poor, limestone soils with an eastern exposure.

Vinification and ageing

Hand-harvested, the grapes are rigorously sorted on a sorting table before being fully de-stemmed. Traditional vinification in open temperature-controlled vats. Ageing for 15 months: 50% in new oak (50% in 350L barrels and 50% in Burgundy barrels), 25% in 350L barrels from 2019 and 25% in Burgundy barrels from 2019.

Blend

This Saint-Aubin 1er cru "Le Charmois" 2020 red from Au Pied du Mont Chauve is 100% pinot noir.
