    Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Maestro Reserva by Brugal

    Tasting Notes

    Appearance
This rum reveals a dark, warm hue, adorned with caramel and mahogany highlights. Its natural colour and beautiful brilliance are accompanied by an appealing viscosity, reflecting its richness and concentration.

    Nose
The nose is deeply marked by the influence of sherry casks. It offers a rich aromatic palette dominated by dried fruits, notably fig, alongside caramel, dark honey and vanilla. Notes of red fruits, toasted almond and a subtle floral touch intertwine with a delicate hint of gentle smoke.

    Palate
The attack is smooth and vanilla-laced, revealing a creamy, velvety texture. The mid-palate unfolds indulgent flavours of caramel, dulce de leche and dried fruits, enriched by the depth of dark chocolate and tropical fruits such as roasted pineapple. A touch of orange zest and gentle woody spices perfectly balance this natural sweetness, leading into a long, warm and delicately spiced finish, tinged with a light brown sugar bitterness.

    Pairings and Tasting Moments
Designed to be enjoyed neat or on the rocks, this sipping rum is best appreciated at the end of a meal. Its aromatic richness makes it the perfect companion to dark chocolate desserts, walnut and caramel tarts, or a crème brûlée. It can also create a lovely contrasting pairing with slightly salty hard cheeses.

    Mixology
Although this is an exceptional spirit designed above all to be savoured without embellishment, it can elevate spirit-forward cocktails where the rum remains centre stage, such as a rum-based Old Fashioned or a Manhattan variation.

    Other Characteristics
This rum is bottled at 41.2% vol., a strength carefully chosen to offer optimal aromatic intensity while ensuring great ease of tasting. It stands out for its entirely natural sweetness, achieved without any added sugar or additives.

The Elegance of a Great Dominican Republic Rum by Brugal

Brugal: The Excellence of Dominican Republic Rum
Founded in 1888 by Andrés Brugal Montaner, the house of Brugal is an iconic figure of Dominican Republic Rum. Historically rooted in Puerto Plata, where its ageing cellars are located under a tropical climate, the company strategically placed its distillery in San Pedro de Macorís to source exclusively local molasses. Brugal's identity is built on highly refined column distillation at 95% vol., ensuring a distillate of great purity in which wood plays the leading aromatic role. Today, the family's fifth generation, embodied by Maestra Ronera Jassil Villanueva Quintana, carries on this century-old expertise. Since 2008, the Scottish group Edrington has been the majority shareholder and owner of the brand, driving its international development while rigorously preserving its roots and production within Dominican territory.

Maestro Reserva: The Innovation of Dark Aromatic Toasting
The Maestro Reserva is a prestige cuvée that showcases the Dominican house's capacity for innovation. This amber Dominican Republic rum is crafted exclusively from high-quality local molasses. Its uniqueness lies in an original, proprietary heating process called "Dark Aromatic Toasting".

After an initial ageing period, the rum is temporarily removed from its American oak casks, which previously held sherry. These barrels, still damp, are then subjected to an intense, carefully controlled heating process. This technique caramelises the sugars naturally present in the wood, creating "caramel pearls". The casks are then immediately refilled with the same distillate for a second maturation phase under the tropical sun.

This intricate process results in a natural sweetness derived exclusively from the wood, with no external sugar added. Presented in an elegant, bespoke decanter that underscores its luxurious positioning, the Maestro Reserva stands as a sophisticated sipping spirit, celebrating over 135 years of expertise in the mastery of wood and ageing.
