The expression of great Tuscan terroirs through a smooth, balanced red wine

    The estate

Located in the heart of Tuscany’s majestic landscapes, the Castello di Ama estate takes its name from the small village of “Ama”, perched at an altitude of 500 meters.

Founded in 1970 by a group of families with the ambition of producing a Chianti Classico recognized among the finest Italian wines and in the world, Castello di Ama is a major guardian of the historical heritage of this village, whose agricultural and winegrowing activities have been renowned for more than five centuries. Repeatedly awarded and recognized for the quality of its wines, the Castello di Ama estate is now run by Lorenza Sebasti and Marco Pallanti, a Tuscan oenologist named “winemaker of the year” in 2003 by the prestigious Italian magazine “Gambero Rosso”.

    The vineyard

Haiku by Castello di Ama is a Tuscan wine from the Montebuoni vineyard, spanning a total area of 2 hectares. These clay- and limestone-rich soils benefit from a northwest/southeast exposure, offering ideal conditions for berry ripening.

    The wine

This IGT Toscana wine was first produced with the 2009 vintage. Its name draws its origins from a short form of Japanese poem, composed of three lines.

    The vintage

A mild, rainy winter, punctuated by a few cool days, gives way to a spring marked by frosty spells that did not impact the estate’s vineyards due to their altitude. A mild and dry June precedes a hot, sunny summer with relatively little rainfall.

    Vinification and aging

Hand-harvested, the grape varieties are vinified separately with native yeasts. Vinification takes place in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks for 27 days for Sangiovese and Cabernet Franc, and 24 days for Merlot. After malolactic fermentation in stainless-steel tanks, the wines were blended and then aged in oak barrels (24% new) for 12 months.

    Blend

    Sangiovese and Cabernet Franc.
