    Wine Spectator

    Alison Napjus

Sweet smoke and spice notes waft through this floral and aromatic Champagne, along with bright, citrusy acidity and layers of tea rose, biscuit, vanilla and candied orange peel. Very charming. Drink now through 2018. 100 cases imported.

This almost dry Champagne is balanced and tightly crisp. It comes from a solera that is renewed annually, giving a touch of maturity while also retaining freshness. The wine has a lively mousse and lemon aftertaste, ready to drink now.

    Vinous

    Antonio Galloni

The Brut NV is a blend of 50% Pinot Noir, 30% Chardonnay based on 2018 with 20% of reserve wines blended from seven vintages in a solera, all made in stainless steel. The mousse is frothy and shows an earthy vibe on the palate, along with Pinot richness and buttery short crust autolysis. Dosage is 5gr/L. Disgorged: July 31, 2021. - Anne Krebiehl MW

Pure, lively bouquet. The palate is precise and chiselled, yet still generous. Clever dosage. A generous, fruit-driven finish, almost vinous. A well-controlled style. A sure bet.

    Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Brut by Nathalie Falmet

    Tasting Notes

    Color
A hue ranging from pale yellow to a more intense gold, adorned with subtle straw or coppery highlights. The effervescence is both fine and persistent.

    Nose
The aromatic bouquet is complex and harmonious. It opens with notes of fresh fruit such as lemon, grapefruit, apple and pear, underscored by delicate touches of red fruit. These are joined by scents of white flowers, as well as indulgent aromas of brioche, hazelnut and light honey, all carried by a mineral, chalky backbone.

    Palate
The attack is lively and dry, supported by a sharp yet perfectly integrated acidity. The texture proves ample and creamy, offering flavors of ripe fruit. The finish, long and persistent, stands out for its mineral salinity and final notes of citrus and brioche.

    Food and Wine Pairing

This cuvée excels as an aperitif and beautifully complements seafood, such as oysters or sashimi. It also pairs wonderfully with grilled fish, white meats like roast poultry, as well as soft-ripened cheeses such as chaource or brie.

    Serving and Cellaring

This champagne can be enjoyed now for its freshness, or cellared for around three to eight years after disgorgement to develop more evolved, toasted aromas.

A Precise, Distinctive Champagne from Nathalie Falmet

    The Estate

Located in Rouvres-les-Vignes in the Côte des Bar, in Champagne, the estate spans 3.40 hectares. Although the family operation has existed for several generations and was taken over in 1993, the current brand was truly established in 1999, when Nathalie Falmet, the current owner and trained oenologist, began marketing her own wines. This passionate winemaker stands out for her scientific yet artisanal approach, crafting terroir-driven cuvées of great precision, recognized for their quality and distinctive identity.

    The Vineyard

The vines flourish on the terroirs of the Côte des Bar, south of Champagne. The plots, divided equally between Val Cornet (50%) and Val Dron (50%), rest on soils of marl and Kimmeridgian limestone. The estate is managed according to the principles of sustainable viticulture, limiting inputs to allow the terroir's typicity and minerality to express themselves naturally.

    Winemaking and Aging

This Champagne Brut is made entirely in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks to preserve the freshness and aromatic purity of the juices. Malolactic fermentation is carried out, followed by extended aging on the lees in bottle for around five years, lending the wine complexity and depth.

    Grape Varieties

Pinot Noir (40%), Chardonnay (35%), complemented by reserve wines from a solera (25%).
