Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of the Garance Blanc de Noirs 2012 by Thiénot
Tasting
Nose
Particularly expressive and remarkably complex, it reveals aromas of ripe yellow fruits and mirabelle plum, interwoven with notes of dried fruits. Touches of dark citrus, dried flowers, sweet spices and roasted coffee further enrich this bouquet.
Palate
Dynamic and endowed with an impressive structure, it offers beautiful minerality along with remarkable depth. The whole remains highly elegant, stretching towards a savoury, long and taut finish.
Food and wine pairings
This cuvée pairs wonderfully with delicate meats such as spring lamb or Bresse poultry. It also perfectly accompanies a pan-fried medley of wild mushrooms, a cooked pressed cheese such as an aged Comté matured for 24 months, or a red fruit dessert such as a cherry tart.
Serving and cellaring
To fully appreciate the Garance Blanc de Noirs 2012, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 8 and 10°C. This wine has a cellaring potential of over 10 years.
A characterful champagne combining the power of Pinot Noir with the elegance of Maison Thiénot
The estate
Founded in 1985 by Alain Thiénot, a former broker, Champagne Thiénot is a family-owned and independent estate located in the heart of Reims. Today, his children, Garance and Stanislas Thiénot, lead the estate and oversee a vineyard of around 30 hectares, mainly classified as grand cru and premier cru. This contemporary house stands out for its boldness and its deep roots in historic terroirs, offering wines that brilliantly combine Champagne tradition with modernity.
The vineyard
The grapes used for this cuvée mainly come from the Montagne de Reims, an essential terroir of Champagne. Sourcing relies on a rigorous selection of prestigious terroirs, with around 30% of villages classified as grand cru, such as Aÿ and Mailly, and 55% of premiers crus including Taissy, Avenay-Val-d'Or, Mareuil-sur-Aÿ and Cumières. A few plots located in Les Riceys complete this high-quality set.
The vintage
The 2012 year was marked by climatic conditions that favoured a rich and intense harvest. This vintage yielded berries with great aromatic maturity while retaining a beautifully natural tension, thus offering an ideal balance between concentration and freshness.
Winemaking and ageing
The making of the Garance Blanc de Noirs 2012 begins with a fully completed malolactic fermentation. After bottling in May 2013, the bottles benefit from a long ageing on lees of nine years in the historic cellars of the house in Reims. The late disgorgement took place in September 2022.
Grape varieties
This blend is composed of 90% Pinot Noir and 10% Pinot Meunier.
