    Wine Spectator

    Alison Napjus

Rich flavors and aromas of bread pudding and molasses mix with hints of baked peach, biscuit, ground ginger, fleur de sel and candied orange zest in this elegant bubbly, which shows lovely balance, a subtle bead and a delicate yet persistent freshness. Disgorged October 2008. Drink now through 2020.

    Decanter

Veuve Cliqcuot’s Cave Privée programme of setting aside respectable allocations of every vintage release is courageous, not least because vintages that don’t age well will never surface. 1990 shows breathtaking endurance – a mesmerising golden sunset of vivid brushstrokes of mature complexity.

    Roger Voss

This toasty, superbly mature wine is part of a series of releases featuring the house's cellar-matured Champagnes. This emerges from the glass with complex flavors of almond, brioche, citrus and a hint of steeliness. The majestic richness of the wine has fully justified its decades of aging.

    La RVF

Wonderful notes of spice, tobacco and dead leaves, carried on a supple palate that fully expresses the vintage. Gentle kirsch-like aromas and a long finish will pair beautifully with a flavoursome white meat dish. Soothing.

    Le Figaro Vin

The 1990 is now a Champagne at its peak: it is full-bodied, with a lovely, suave mid-palate; subtle hints of development are emerging, with lovely morel notes, and a beautifully expansive finish.

    Description

The refinement of a vintage Brut Champagne by Veuve Clicquot

    The House

Now a brand of worldwide renown, the Veuve Clicquot legend was built thanks to one woman: Madame Clicquot. In 1798, François Clicquot married the daughter of Baron Nicolas Ponsardin. The son of the founder of the Clicquot Champagne House, he shared his passion with his wife, initiating her into the secrets of Champagne making. When her husband died prematurely, she resolutely took the helm of the House of Champagne Veuve Clicquot at just 27. Guided by an innate sense of innovation and a perpetual quest for perfection, she invented the riddling table and brought the first blended rosé Champagne to market. Veuve Clicquot has made this uncompromising standard its motto: “Only one quality, the finest.”

    The Vineyard

With 390 hectares, Veuve Clicquot owns one of the largest vineyards in the Champagne region. The vineyard is also exceptional in quality, spread across 12 of the 17 Grands Crus and 20 of the 44 Premiers Crus of Champagne.

    The Wine

The Cave Privée Rosé 1990 cuvée is crafted from a selection of wines sourced from Grands Crus and Premiers Crus in the Montagne de Reims, the Grande Vallée de la Marne and the Côte des Blancs.

    Blend

Veuve Clicquot’s Cave Privée Rosé 1990 is a blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
