The property

The name of the Château Batailley refers to the Hundred Years War, a battle of which was fought in 1453 on the estate's lands. Château Batailley became a wine estate from the 17th century. This 5th Classified Growth in 1855 is produced in the Pauillac appellation, on the left bank of Bordeaux.

The vineyard

Averaging 40 years old, the vineyard, which covers a total area of 57 hectares, is planted on soils made up of siliceous and gravel characteristic of Pauillac.

The vintage

Marked by early ripening and periods of extreme drought, 2020 is the third vintage of a trilogy of very high quality wines, 2018, 2019 and 2020. A very mild winter promotes early bud break of the vine, followed by flowering observed in early May. More irregular conditions in May and June give way to the beginning of July, whose more clement conditions allow the start of veraison. The lack of rain is combined with high summer temperatures. The grapes harvested in September are of very high quality and give this vintage roundness, richness and elegance.

Cabernet sauvignon (70%), merlot (26%), petit verdot (2%) and cabernet franc (2%).
