Description
The elegance and structure of a Saint-Émilion wine
The estate
Château Bellefont-Belcier was acquired in 1889 by the Faure family, whose innovation and hard work made it one of the jewels of the Bordeaux region. In 1994, it became the property of BJL & Partenaires, which breathed new life into this Grand Cru Classé by modernising its facilities while respecting its different terroirs. In recent years, Château Bellefont-Belcier changed hands several times before joining Vignobles K, owned by Hong Kong businessman Peter Kwok, in 2017.
The vineyard
Château Bellefont-Belcier 2017 is a Saint-Émilion wine from a 13.5-hectare vineyard planted on a clay-limestone hillside and Fronsadais molasse soils.
Winemaking and ageing
The harvest is rigorously sorted before being placed in a cold room. Plot-by-plot vinification. Gravity-fed reception, followed by low-temperature maceration in small, temperature-controlled concrete and wooden vats. Malolactic fermentation in vat and barrel. The wine is aged in barrels (40% new, 30% used once or twice before).
Blend
This Château Bellefont-Belcier 2017 is a blend of Merlot (70%), Cabernet Franc (25%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (5%).
