    Decanter

Gorgeous nose, bramble fruits and blackcurrant jam. Good intensity on the palate, a rush of black fruits arrives before the dark, spicy liquorice comes alongside the salty, mineral stoniness from limestone terroir, adding texture and complexity. A serious style, sculpted and firm but with energy and drive. The texture is sleek and there is lovely precision with a juicy, bright lift at the end. One to seek out and an estate to watch.

    James Suckling

Aromas of blueberries, currants, wild raspberries and bark. Some pine cones and black olives, too. Medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins. Nicely fleshy on the mid-palate. Drink from 2023.

A wine combining ripeness and freshness, with dark chocolate notes, cassis, cherry and mild spices, a dense structure and a long, fluid finish.

A spicy, complex, floral nose of red and blue fruits as well as cedary herbs emerges from the 2019 Château Canon Pecresse, one heck of a Canon-Fronsac that's medium-bodied, has a balanced, layered mouthfeel, plenty of tannins, and a great finish. Clearly an outstanding wine, with lots of character, it will drink brilliantly for a solid 8-10 years.

A tiny estate, next to Vrai Canon Bouclé, set on one of the highest points of the Canon Fronsac appellation. A touch of smoky reduction on the first nose; this has grip and presence, a little strict but with creamy blackberry fruit underneath. The sense of construction is clear, and this is impressive, an upscore from En Primeur.

    Lisa Perrotti-Brown

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2019 Canon Pecresse offers scents of stewed tea, raisin cake, and prunes with touches of dried flowers and Chinese five spice. The medium to full-bodied palate is firm and chewy with bags of spicy stewed plums and prune flavors and a grippy finish.

    Bettane+Desseauve

Broad attack with a palate consistently wrapped in refined flesh. A fine, brilliant wine, accompanied by great freshness. Beautiful length on the finish.

    Le Figaro Vin

A linear, inviting nose—fresh and pretty—revealing pure red fruit with notes of blueberry pie. Silky on the palate, light and fresh, with a deliciously savory finish.

I had already noticed it during the Primeurs tasting: the resinous note is still there. It comes with shades of black berries. A juicy, slightly creamy attack. The wine has body, a suave side, and supportive tannins. Fruity finish.

    Description

A great red wine from Canon-Fronsac

    The estate
It was in 1947 that the family of Jean-Francis Pécresse decided to invest in Fronsadais land, in the Canon-Fronsac appellation, north of the Bordeaux region. In 2003, Jean-Francis took over the reins of Canon Pécresse with the aim to cultivate the plots of this terroir with the greatest care and respect for the environment.

    The vineyard
The Château Canon Pécresse vineyard is planted in limestone and clay-limestone soils on asterite limestone. In 2019, 3 hectares were harvested manually from September 25 to October 8.

    The winemaking
Maceration in concrete tanks for 21 to 24 days. Gentle extraction by pump-overs. Partial malolactic fermentation in barrels.

    The ageing
1/3 in concrete vats, 2/3 in French oak barrels.

    The blend

    Merlot (85%), cabernet franc (15%).
