    James Molesworth

Fresh, featuring ripe plum and cassis notes gilded with a floral hint and backed by subtle cedar, tobacco and iron notes. Textbook typicity. A rock-solid value. Best from 2019 through 2027. 33,333 cases made.

    Decanter

Deep and bright with a good attack of brambles, gooseberry and raspberry. It just doesn't quite deliver the suave tannins that you look for in such a brilliant vintage, although the relatively high 6% of Petit Verdot alongside the classic Cabernets and Merlot blend often gives a slight rusticity to them in the early years. One of the few wines in the Margaux region where I prefer the 2016, but this is still a lovely wine. Eric Boissenot consults.

Impressive richness and clarity of red and dark berries. Lightly spiced-pastry aromas, too. The palate has a very crisp, polished and groomed tannin texture, as well as super fresh flavors that carry long. Great wine. Try from 2022.

One of the sleepers of the vintage, the 2015 Cantemerle is even better from bottle than it was from barrel. Dark cherry, plum, licorice, new leather and tobacco all flesh out in this inviting, resonant Haut-Médoc. A wine with gorgeous presence and no hard edges, Cantemerle captures all the sheer early appeal of the vintage. Cantemerle is 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Merlot, with dollops of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.

Soft, refined, fresh and with ample, ripe, polished cherry and plum notes, the wine has a beautiful floral essence, enhanced by silky tannins and vibrant red fruit sensations on the finish. With age, this should fill out and become as good, or even better than the sublime 2010!

    Falstaff

    Falstaff

Dark ruby colour, with purple reflections, and a discreet bright rim. On the nose, delicate floral cherry fruit, with some liquorice and tobacco nuances. It has medium complexity, with ripe cherry flavour, pleasant sweet fruit, and finely integrated tannins. It is elegant and persistent, and it is a multi-faceted food wine.

Based on 59% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, the inky colored 2015 Château Cantemerle offers a terrific bouquet of black currants, smoked herbs, earth, and hints of charcoal. Ripe, concentrated, rounded, and undeniably delicious, with ripe tannin, it's a terrific vintage for Cantemerle to drink anytime over the coming 10-15 years.

Dark garnet, fairly dense at the core, ruby rim. Open, spicy bouquet with a slightly leafy character, indicating just-ripe fruit. Elegant palate that feels rather light, finishing pleasantly. It’s still not exactly perfect — but it hasn’t been this good in a long time.

Red-berry, sweet bouquet, raspberries, cherries, wood. Firm, nicely dry palate with sweet fruit, light structure, sweet aromatics, dry finish. 16/20 2022 - 2032

So much pleasure on display here, with enveloping ripe berry fruit, cumin and sage spices, chalky tannins giving focus and lift, soft through the mid palate but everything melts into the wider architecture of the wine, and this is thoroughly easy to fall in love with. 40% new oak for ageing, Eric Boissenot consultant, Philippe Dambrine estate director.

The 2015 Cantemerle is medium to deep garnet colored. It features notes of cranberry sauce and kirsch leading to hints of wild sage and forest floor. The medium-bodied palate is chewy and refreshing, with red berry layers and herbal sparks, finishing with a spritely lift.

Very attractive graphite-driven nose, a restrained yet complete texture, plenty of nuance, harmonious tannins—Cantemerle at its best.

Solid and very well structured. The palate is straight, indulgent, and carried by fine tannins. A very balanced and classic ensemble that makes this a benchmark Cantermerle.

The nose is delightfully spicy and expressive. The palate is all about structure—noble, spicy, and long. Superb wine.

Beautiful dark color. The nose is a bit discreet, with slightly cool fruit. Caressing on the attack, a little reserved mid-palate but fruity, the wine finishes peppery and slightly rough, with medium length.

Dark garnet, quite dense in the middle, ruby rim. Open, spicy bouquet with a slightly leafy character, showing barely ripe fruit. Elegant palate that feels rather light, pleasantly finishing. It’s still not perfect, but it hasn’t been this good in a long time. (17/20). 18: Dark garnet, quite dense in the middle, ruby rim. Fairly accessible bouquet, rather lactic at first, blackberry as the main fruit, showing discreet floral nuances in the background (Médoc-Merlot). Juicy palate, fairly fine tannins, a full-bodied, slightly mealy extract, comes across as quite concentrated and pleases with its straight line. For its performance, a very good value with a relatively early drinking window. 17/20

92–94. Barrel Sample. With structured tannins and red berry notes, this is already showing an elegant structure. It is the fruit that sings here, gently supported by the fine, dusty tannins.

An Exceptional Haut-Médoc Combining Power and Elegance

    The estate
Founded in the 18th century, Château Cantemerle is a 5th Grand Cru Classé of Bordeaux located in Macau and Ludon-Médoc. Owned by the SMABTP group since 1981, the château has been managed by Laure Canu since 2021. The estate has just completed a major modernization, with a new gravity-flow vat room and the restoration of the historic château, positioning Cantemerle as a model of the alliance between tradition and innovation in the Médoc.

    The vineyard
The estate spans 93 hectares of vines in the Haut-Médoc, planted on quaternary-era siliceous gravel soils. The vines, averaging 40 years of age, benefit from these exceptional terroirs, which give the wines their distinctive character and aging potential.

    The vintage
The 2015 vintage in Bordeaux is recognized as exceptional, marked by ideal climatic conditions. An early spring followed by a hot, dry summer allowed for optimal grape ripening, resulting in wines of great concentration and excellent aging potential.

    Winemaking and aging
The grapes for Château Cantemerle 2015 are hand-harvested, followed by rigorous sorting after destemming. Vinification takes place in wooden, stainless steel, and concrete vats under the supervision of consulting oenologist Eric Boissenot. The wine is aged for 12 months in French oak barrels, 40% of which are new, lending structure and complexity to the wine.

    Grape varieties
The blend for this 2015 vintage consists of Cabernet Sauvignon (59%), Merlot (27%), Cabernet Franc (8%), and Petit Verdot (6%).
