Château Cantemerle 2019

Very direct in feel, offering plum and cherry purée notes gilded with hints of violet and anise. Shows a graphite accent on the finish, which adds depth as the fruit blossoms around it. Solid. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. Drink now through 2030. 33,000 cases made.

Green pepper and herbaceous notes on the nose with minty eucalyptus alongside ripe cherry and blackcurrant aromas — so classic. A lovely mouthfeel here, smooth, well-defined and precise. Quite direct, serious and dark-fruited — such a concentrated core — but with smooth tannins, a gentle sweetness and a freshness that lifts the whole frame. Balanced with succulence. Makes a lasting impact and impression. A great value pick.

A red with lots of currant, blackberry, fresh herb and tobacco character. Hint of mushroom, too. It’s full and layered with polished, chewy tannins and a bright, fresh finish. Very long and focused. Give it time to come together. Very classic character here. Best after 2026.

The 2019 Cantemerle is a very pretty and understated wine. Sweet red cherry, plum, blood orange, spice, tobacco, leather and dried herbs all grace this expressive Haut-Médoc. The 2019 is super classy from start to finish, but there is a bit less depth and overall substance than there was at the outset.

Quite savory with a bouquet of herbs, wet earth, currants, spice and cocoa. Medium-bodied, soft, fresh, earthy, forward and earthy, give it a few years in the cellar before pulling the cork. Drink from 2024-2037.

Dark ruby garnet, purple reflections, broad rim brightening. Delicate precious wood savouriness, fresh blackberries, a hint of cassis, nuances of orange zest, mineral touch. Medium complexity, fresh red cherries, lively structure, integrated tannins, lemony red-berry finish, offers uncomplicated drinking pleasure.

An incredibly consistent estate that always delivers a quality wine, the 2019 Château Cantemerle checks in as 68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot and the balance Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Classic Médoc notes of red and black currants, cedar pencil, sappy herbs, and tobacco give way to a medium-bodied 2019 with terrific balance, ripe, polished tannins, good acidity, and outstanding length. This terrific wine will benefit from just short-term cellaring and keep for 15+ in cold cellars.

Purple with a ruby rim. Open, blueberry-driven bouquet with blackcurrant pastilles, raspberry coulis, violet and liquorice on an enticing nose. The palate is powerful, with a tight-knit tannic frame, refined firmness and a granular extract—everything is in its right place. Aromatic finish of blueberry, cherry liqueur and supportive minerality on the aftertaste. Top performance; for me, the best Cantemerle I’ve had the pleasure to taste!

The 2019 Cantemerle is deep garnet-purple in color. Perfumed notes of rose petal and cinnamon stick lead to a core of warm plums and boysenberry preserves, with a waft of sandalwood. The medium-bodied palate is soft and juicy, with firm, grainy tannins and lovely freshness, finishing long and lifted.

A pure, shimmering nose of red fruits that are both fresh and sweet. The palate, full of energy, offers lovely juicy fruit, chew, and gentle, gradually developing bitterness.

Beautiful dark, purple color. Moderately intense, fruity nose. Fruity, caressing, pleasant palate with medium body and length.

93–95. Barrel Sample. This grand classed growth has produced a richly structured wine that is balanced by ripe black fruits. It shows spice from the touch of Petit Verdot in the blend, as well as fine acidity and freshness that give it poise and a vibrant finish.
