The elegance of a great Haut-Médoc wine with a sun-drenched character
The estate
Located in the Bordeaux region, Château Cantemerle has origins dating back to 1540. This historic estate stands out for a unique distinction: it is the only property to have been added to the original 1855 classification, as a Fifth Growth Classified Cru. The SMA group is the current owner of the estate, today led by Laure Canu.
The vineyard
Located within the Haut-Médoc appellation, in the south of the Médoc peninsula near the villages of Macau and Ludon, the terroir is distinguished by its deep gravel soils composed of Quaternary silica. The vines are tended with care, using double Guyot pruning, leaf removal and manual thinning. The harvest is carried out entirely by hand with rigorous selective sorting directly in the vineyards.
The wine
2025 is the first vintage to be vinified in the estate's new cellar. A new label celebrates this event.
The vintage
2025 was a great sun-drenched year. The growing cycle began with budbreak on 24 March, followed by mid-flowering on 23 May and fruit set on 2 June. Mid-veraison took place on 28 July, allowing the grapes to reach optimal maturity for a harvest that ran from 4 to 20 September. Alcohol: 13% vol.
Winemaking and ageing
2025 marks an important milestone with the inauguration of new facilities and a brand-new label. The number of vats has been tripled, offering the possibility of highly precise parcel-by-parcel vinification, handling the berries with the utmost care. The wine then benefits from traditional ageing of 18 months in oak barrels.
Grape varieties
71% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc and 4% Petit Verdot.
