Tasted single blind against its peers. The Chateau Coutet 2007 has a very intense bouquet with lemon curd and orange blossom mixed with clear honey. There is impressive precision here, almost crystalline. The palate is medium-bodied with a very fine, viscous entry, great weight and intensity with racy acidity. There is also much tension cutting through the layers of viscous fruit on the sorbet-like finish. This is a typical Coutet through and through and it should age effortlessly over 20-30 years. Tasted January 2011.

Offers fascinating aromas of cooked apple, clove and honey that follow through to a full body, with superlively acidity and spicy blanched almond and honey character on the palate. Long and powerful, showing amazing botrytis character, with so much spice and richness, yet also freshness. Even better than the superb 2006. Best after 2015.

This didn’t seem quite as impressive as en primeur. A little sugary on the nose with a light floral note. Sweet, round and lightly syrupy, with a whisper of botrytis on the finish, but just a bit feeble overall. Really quite light compared to some – but perhaps useful with foie gras?! (JR)

The 2007 Coutet has a quintessential Barsac nose with barley sugar and light chlorophyll scents filtering through the honeyed fruit. The palate is beautifully balanced and powerful. Layers of botrytised fruit, marmalade and tangerine come to the fore with great focus and delineation on the finish. This is an outstanding Coutet that will give years of drinking pleasure. Tasted from an ex-château bottle served at the estate.

A beautiful aroma greets you with little effort. Scents of honeysuckle, orange rind, nuts, apricots, pineapple and vanilla with honey make the perfect appetizer. On the palate, this lush, rich wine is balanced with acidity, leaving with fresh, honeyed, tropical fruits and a hint of sweet Meyer lemon. Drink this today if you like it sweet and youthful, or age it for a few decades. Either way, it's a delicious treat.

Bright yellow. Sweet, elegant bouquet, with botrytis only in the background. On the palate, plenty of sweetness and slightly lower acidity, making it feel a bit heavy for now, with cooked fruit notes on the finish. May improve with better balance, but currently sits somewhat behind the elite.

Bright yellow. Sweet, elegant bouquet, with botrytis only showing in the background. On the palate, plenty of sweetness and a bit less acidity, making this Sauternes feel a touch too heavy for now, finishing with cooked fruit notes on the finish. It may still improve if it finds better balance. At the moment, it’s a little behind the elite.

Silky, full, fruity, fresh bouquet with dried apricots and grapefruit. A silkier, fuller, broader palate with a creamy texture, good fruit, pronounced sweetness and medium acidity. Long, full finish. 18/20 2015 - 2030

The 2007 Coutet is medium yellow-gold in color. It features notes of stewed peaches, apple crumble, and pineapple tart, plus suggestions of nutmeg, chamomile tea, and fresh hay. The palate features a refreshing line to lift the maturing stone fruit and apple preserves flavors to a long finish.

Magnificent 2007, extremely lusciously sweet for the cru, long on the palate, among the greatest wines of the vintage.

Pale golden yellow. Pleasant freshness in the bouquet of Coutet 2007, with notes of limes and oranges complemented by nuances of acacia blossom. Dense, silky attack. The incisive edge of the structure balances the sweetness, ultimately creating harmony. It also lends character and persistence to the finish. A harmonious, charming Coutet, well prepared for the future.

Greenish yellow color. Stewed, very ripe fruit on the nose. Soft palate, very fruity, flavorful, but for the first time a touch flabby. I expected more. pH: 3.7, residual sugar: 140 g/l.

Its personality is commanding and has lost none of its flair. Unlike 2008, this is a very lusciously sweet Coutet—rich and generous—unfolding with length and silky smoothness.

The aromas are intensely sweet, full of orange marmalade and honey. The palate goes more for spice, with oranges and brown sugar allied to fresh fruits, apricots and lychees. The final flavors are delicious and enticing.

    Description

2007 1er Cru Classe from Barsac

Located in Barsac, the Chateau Coutet vineyard stretches over 40 hectares and is composed of approximately 38 year old vines. This 2007 is a blend of 75% Semillon, 23% Sauvignon Blanc and 2% Muscadelle.

The wine reveals a nice golden colour with yellow highlights and a very fine nose that combines alcohol candied orange zests, gingerbread and beeswax notes that create a very complex aromatic palette. The 2007 Chateau Coutet attack is very fleshy, round with well-marked honey, vanilla, dried apricot aromas followed by some fine and elegant spicy notes.
