    Vinum

This is one of Saint-Émilion’s rising stars. Delicate and floral, with violet blossoms, ripe blackberry and blackcurrant, underpinned by a hint of cedarwood and subtle toasted notes; on the palate, a creamy opening quickly gives way to a straight, vertical structure, with incredibly crisp fruit carried by fine-grained limestone tannins; the finish is fresh, juicy and saline. Château de Ferrand lies on Saint-Émilion’s limestone plateau, on one of the appellation’s finest terroirs, which expresses itself with increasing precision year after year.

Vibrant purple pink colour on the rim of the glass. Beautifully pure blackcurrant and red cherry aromas, ripe and expressive with some wild bramble fruit, cola and liquorice. Silky smooth, such refined tannins, softly chewy but not overly so, just giving a round and grippy mouthfeel. Clearly they didn't extract too much, this has life and focus with concentration but such delicacy too. Yet still there’s power - such a long, liquorice and mint finish. Spiced but in line. I really like this, a great job. Packing plenty of structure and tannins but with a real kick and lift. One of the best here. Harvest 2-19 September. 3.38pH. A yield of 32hl/ha. Ageing 12-14 months, 30% new oak.

Black cherries, licorice, plums, spice, and a hint of espresso crowd into the aromatic profile. On the palate, the wine is supple, creamy, fresh, and lively. The fruits are clean, refined, and express their marine influences on the mid palate, along with just the right amount of dark chocolate to round everything out. You can enjoy this with just a year or two of bottle age. And if you prefer more complexity, you will be able to enjoy this for the next 20 years with ease. Drink from 2029-2050. 93-95 Pts

A ton of sweet fruit, black cherry and damson, clear cedar and sandalwood grilling on the aromatics already beginning to integrate on the palate. The low ph just really eats the oak even at this stage, and will not doubt continue to add texture over ageing. Successful limestone touch of citrus zest and chamomile, strong anis and liquorice. Harvest September 2 to 19. Yield 32 hl/ha. 3.4 pH.

The bouquet unfolds with such subtlety that you immediately sense its devotion to detail, whether through floral, spicy or chalky nuances. Everything is perfectly composed, with an obvious concern for precision. The creamy texture on entry heralds a broad, full-bodied wine that glides seamlessly, without a hitch, and shows powerful, fine-grained tannins. These create an exceptional energy with the incisive acidity, giving Château de Ferrand a profile that is both lively and vigorous, with a subtle austerity that underpins the freshness and the lingering finish. A Château de Ferrand that has clearly reached a new level—at least for me—as it is the best I have tasted to date. My sincere congratulations to Philippe Chandon-Moët and Gonzague de Lambert, as well as to the teams, for their continued commitment to this magnificent estate. Tasted while listening to Chopin’s Nocturnes.

Deep, intense, purplish-red colour. Very aromatic nose, refined, fruity, pure and subtle. Fleshy on the attack, flavourful on the mid-palate, initially rich and creamy then showing a slight tendency towards austerity, the wine nonetheless develops into a long, deep finish. Blend: 71% Merlot, 29% Cabernet Franc. Alcohol: 14.5% - pH: 3.4. Yield: 32 hl/ha.

    Description

Tasting Notes and Characteristics of Château de Ferrand 2025

    Tasting

    Appearance
With a beautiful garnet hue, this wine reflects a measured extraction and a perfect balance between the richness of Merlot and the freshness of Cabernet Franc.

    Nose
The aromatic bouquet is intense and complex, offering notes of fully ripe fruit interwoven with delicate spicy touches.

    Palate
The attack is clean and remarkably smooth. The mid-palate unfolds fruity aromas supported by silky tannins that structure the whole through to a persistent and elegant finish.

    Food and wine pairings
Thanks to its freshness and elegance, this wine pairs beautifully with poultry dishes, particularly delicate chicken preparations. Its minerality and roundness also allow it to accompany white meats served with creamy sauces, vegetables, or butter-enriched dishes.

The excellence of a Grand Cru Classé from Saint-Emilion crafted by Château de Ferrand

    The estate
Founded in 1702, Château de Ferrand is a historic property in the Bordeaux region. This 42-hectare estate is now managed by Pauline and Philippe Chandon-Moët, alongside General Manager Gonzague de Lambert. Elevated to Grand Cru Classé status in 2012, the estate stands as a prestigious name blending heritage and modernity. Driven by a strong environmental commitment, it obtained organic farming certification in 2024, marking a major turning point in its history.

    The vineyard
Located in the commune of Saint-Hippolyte, the vineyard rises to approximately 100 metres in altitude, making it one of the highest in the Saint-Émilion appellation. This privileged position, overlooking the Dordogne Valley, provides excellent natural ventilation that promotes the healthy condition of the grapes. The vines, with an average age of 35 years, thrive on clay-limestone slopes. The estate practises sustainable, certified organic viticulture, notably using sexual confusion to protect the vines without synthetic chemicals.

    The vintage

A mild, dry winter encouraged early and even budburst. Substantial spring rainfall replenished the water reserves of the clay-limestone soils. Flowering was early thanks to favourable weather. While summer began under hot, dry conditions, a significant drought followed, causing only limited water stress for the vineyard, thanks to the water reserves and the cooling effect of the clay-limestone terroir. A welcome rainy spell in late August allowed the berries to refine their ripeness before an early harvest.

    Vinification and ageing
For the crafting of this vintage, the hand-harvested grapes underwent rigorous sorting to retain only those berries that had reached optimal ripeness. The vinification process benefits from state-of-the-art facilities, with the vat room and cellars having been entirely renovated and modernised in 2010 while preserving the traditional architecture of the site. Alcohol: 14.5%.

    Grape varieties
71% Merlot and 29% Cabernet Franc.
