    Vinum

One of the few sweet wines of this vintage that can also age a bit, even though it will taste good young: interesting elderflower aromatics, great finesse and freshness, just the right concentration, a refreshing herbal‑tea finish.

    Wine Spectator

    James Molesworth

An unctuous style, with toasted almond and hazelnut notes coating the core of glazed peach, warm piecrust and creamed yellow apple. Shows a fresh lemon meringue edge on the finish, though that should give way to a more tropical and toasty side as this ages. Drink now through 2027. 2,500 cases made.

    Decanter

Vibrant sweet wine with freshness and lift. This medium-bodied Barsac has good intensity and mid-palate weight with 135 g/l residual sugar. It is not a blockbuster, but there is freshness here with lifted floral notes. Yields were low – 10 hl/ha; about 30,000 bottles will be made this year.

    James Suckling

Very attractive aromas of dried apricots, crème brûlée and honey lead to a medium body, light sweetness and a flavorful finish. Well done in this difficult vintage. Drink now.

Pure, mineral nose with elegant notes of stone fruits, citrus, and saffron; excellent bite on the palate, sweet citrus and apricot, integrated sweetness and oak, long, juicy finish.

Medium yellow with linden-green nuances, bright. Spicy bouquet, showing a fascinating minerality combined with finely peppery botrytis. Racy play on the palate, cohesive texture, very grapey on the finish. Tastes like a great vintage!

    Lisa Perrotti-Brown

A blend of 82% Semillon and 18% Sauvignon Blanc, the 2012 Doisy-Vedrines has 136 g/L of residual sugar. It has a pale to medium straw-gold color and notes of lemon drops, poached pears, and apple butter slowly emerge from the glass, yielding to fragrant wafts of lime leaves, fresh ginger, and saffron. The palate delivers impactful sweetness, with seamless acidity to balance and loads of savory and citrus fruit accents, finishing on a soft-spoken mineral note.

    Bettane+Desseauve

Rich for a second wine, nicely toasty but less complex in aromatic detail than the grand vin.

    Le Figaro Vin

The pineapple aromas of Doisy-Védrines are charming, the wine is medium-bodied, the finish shows cut hay and above all resin notes, and the whole is very well balanced.

    R.V.

Smoky, floral aromas are immediately enticing. They follow through to a wine that is rich and dry rather than obviously sweet. It has great swathes of botrytis and acidity, accompanied by yellow fruits and ripe citrus. Drink this structured wine from 2020.

    Description

The refinement and structure of a great Sauternes wine

    The property
The Château Doisy-Védrines, some of whose buildings date back to the 16th century, bears the name of the Knights of Védrines, historical owners of the estate until the mid-19th century. It was at this time that the Castéja family acquired it. Classified as a Grand Cru in the prestigious 1855 classification, the château is renowned for its rich, sweet and highly elegant wines, designed for aging and capable of improving admirably over time.

    The vineyard
Located in the commune of Barsac, the Doisy-Védrines vineyard extends over a beautiful ridge of Haut-Barsac, composed of clay-limestone soils and shallow fine gravels, resting on a limestone plateau with asterias. Covering 27 hectares in one piece, this old vineyard - with vines over 35 years old - hosts the emblematic grape varieties of the appellation: sémillon, sauvignon blanc and muscadelle.

    Blend
The Château Doisy-Védrines 2016 is the result of a harmonious blend of sémillon, sauvignon blanc and muscadelle, revealing all the character and nobility of this great Sauternes terroir.
