The elegance and concentration of a great Saint-Julien by Château Lagrange

    The estate

The origins of Château Lagrange date back to the Middle Ages, but it was in 1855 that it gained its nobility credentials. Located in the heart of the Bordeaux region, this 108-hectare vineyard experienced a true renaissance following its acquisition in 1983 by the Japanese group Suntory, its current owner. Now led by Matthieu Bordes, the estate stands out for its commitment to expressing its terroir and technical innovation, elevating its wines among the benchmark references of the appellation.

    The vineyard

The vines extend in a single block within the prestigious Saint-Julien appellation. The vines, averaging 45 years of age, benefit from a planting density of between 8,700 and 10,000 vines per hectare. They thrive on gravelly rises, resting on clay-limestone subsoil and siliceous gravel soils, providing optimal drainage under the influence of a temperate oceanic climate.

    The vintage

The year 2025 began with a mild winter, followed by a particularly hot and dry summer period. Weather conditions then softened in September, with more moderate temperatures playing a key role in preserving the freshness of the berries. Harvesting by hand took place under ideal conditions from September 8 to 24.

    Winemaking and aging

The creation of this wine is based on rigorous plot-by-plot and intra-plot selection, with an initial manual sorting followed by optical sorting. Fermentation takes place in 102 temperature-controlled stainless steel vats over 18 to 25 days, with gentle extractions through pump-overs, rack-and-return, or punch-downs. After malolactic fermentation by co-inoculation, the wine is aged for 21 months in barrels (50% new oak).

    Grape varieties

This Château Lagrange 2025 is a blend of cabernet sauvignon (77%), merlot (18%), and petit verdot (5%).
