Characteristics and tasting tips for Pointe du Diable Blanc 2024 from Château Malherbe
Tasting
Appearance
Brilliant, it reveals a lovely straw-yellow hue with golden and green highlights.
Nose
Highly expressive, the bouquet reveals citrus aromas such as lemon and grapefruit, intertwined with notes of ripe yellow fruit and white spring blossoms. Subtle hints of honey and resinous nuances of myrtle and pine complete this complex ensemble.
Palate
The attack is precise and fresh, with a fine tension that carries the wine through to a long finish. The mid-palate stands out for its rich texture, at once indulgent and easy to enjoy, perfectly balanced by a noble bitterness. The finish is clean, marked by lemony and minty notes and a striking iodine salinity.
Food and wine pairings
This white wine pairs wonderfully with appetisers, delicate fish or a seafood platter. It will also elevate dishes such as tempura prawn fritters, crab ravioli or a cherry tomato crumble with herbes de Provence.
Serving and cellaring
To fully appreciate all the nuances of this 2024 vintage, it is best served at a temperature between 13 and 15°C. With its fine structure, this wine has the ageing potential to develop gracefully in bottle over the next few years.
The maritime freshness and tension of a Côtes de Provence white wine
The estate
Located in Bormes-les-Mimosas in Provence, Château Malherbe boasts an agricultural heritage dating back to the 16th century. Acquired by the Ferrari family in 1940, the wine estate was officially founded in 1960 by Mireille and Serge Ferrari. Today, the fourth generation, represented by Sébastien and Romain Ferrari, runs the property. Committed to protecting the living world, this coastal vineyard stands out for having worked without synthetic chemicals since its very beginnings and for its biodynamic certification, producing wines with a strong identity, deeply shaped by the influence of the sea.
The vineyard
The 25-hectare vineyard, nestled between the Massif des Maures and the Mediterranean Sea, lies within the Côtes de Provence appellation. This cuvée comes from the distinctive terroir of Pointe du Diable, on the seafront just a few metres from the shore. The vines thrive on sandy soils composed of ancient alluvium and scattered with quartz fragments. Farmed organically since its inception and certified biodynamic since 2021, the estate fosters rich biodiversity through the complete absence of chemical weedkillers and the preservation of natural plant cover.
Vinification and ageing
The grapes are harvested by hand. The whole bunches are then gently pressed. Fermentation is carried out with indigenous yeasts, followed by a full malolactic fermentation, sought to bring roundness and drinkability to the wine. Finally, the wine is aged on fine lees in stainless steel tanks for four months, preserving its freshness and aromatic purity without any oak influence.
Grape varieties
This wine is a blend of Ugni Blanc, which brings liveliness and tension, and Sémillon, which gives the wine its structure and rich texture.
