    Decanter

    Quite dark liquorice, black chocolate and toasted notes on the nose, round and softly plump with fleshy tannins and a really bright, almost brisk core of crunchy. cranberry-edged acidity. Straightforward with a structured frame of firm tannins and toasted oak. It’s not yet harmonised and the acidity is quite accentuated which is almost always the case but I do like the generous and friendly tannins which make it that little bit more soft and charming.

    Cherries, plums, tobacco, cinnamon, spearmint, and cigar box aromatics get you instantly focused on the nose. The palate is plush, polished, creamy, elegant, and fresh. The berries display refinement, and purity. The concentrated finish lingers with its blend of vivid, and refreshing mint, tobacco, spice, black raspberries, and Morelleo cherries. To be able to achieve the balance between fruit, and the dynamic freshness in the wine, the late August rains were a huge help. Without that added moisture, ABV levels would have been higher, along with less maturity for the grapes. The wine blends 78% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Cabernet Sauvignon. 14.2% ABV, 3.35 pH. The harvest took place September 12 - September 25. Yield were 30 hectoliters per hectare. Drink from 2029-2060. 96-98 Pts

    Inky plum colour, a wine that I always love tasting, flinty gunsmoke reduction, full of charm and personality. Intense, concentrated, pumice stone and steel, a ton of lift and we are slap bang in full limestone character, with a creamy undertow. 30 hl/ha. 40% new oak, Nicolas Thienpont showcasing his skill.

    The bouquet’s chalky nuances celebrate freshness, also expressed through notes of peony and peppermint. Creamy on the attack, the wine shows power and can rely on a razor-sharp acidity that brings plenty of character on the finish. A mouthwatering, vibrant wine.

    Deep, almost black colour with purple highlights. Intense, fruity nose, with a hint of stewed fruit. A touch of resin appears when the glass is swirled. Precise on the attack, flavoursome through the mid-palate, with a lovely flow and a note subtly marked by resin, the wine caresses the palate. Long, savoury and aromatic, it is continuously carried by a rich texture with smoothly integrated tannins. Blend: 78% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, 2% Cabernet Sauvignon. Alcohol: 14%.

    The estate

    Château Pavie Macquin, founded in the 19th century by Albert Macquin, a pioneer of grafting, is a leading estate in Saint-Émilion. Today in the hands of Macquin's descendants and managed by Nicolas Thienpont along with his son Cyrille, this Right Bank Bordeaux estate is renowned for its exceptional terroir and its commitment to natural, sustainable and rigorous winemaking.

    The vineyard

    The Château Pavie Macquin vineyard covers 15 hectares (13.5 hectares under cultivation) on the renowned limestone plateau of Saint-Émilion. It lies on a clay-limestone terroir resting on starfish limestone, the iconic geological signature of the appellation. The average age of the vines is 35 years, bringing concentration and depth to the wines. The estate combines traditional practices with spontaneous grass cover to promote biodiversity.

    Vinification and ageing

    Whole berries are gravity-fed into the vats, ensuring the integrity of the fruit. Plot-by-plot vinification takes place in concrete vats. Ageing lasts 16 to 20 months in barrels (50% new, 50% one-wine) on fine lees following a reductive approach. The first racking takes place after 6 to 10 months, followed by a second one year later.

    Blend

    The blend of Château Pavie Macquin 2025 is composed of 78% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 2% Cabernet Sauvignon.
