    Decanter

Black fruits dominate with the focus on blackcurrants, black cherries and plums with a soft undercurrent of savoury spice - liquorice, clove, cinnamon, chocolate and coffee beans. I like the dark fruit nature and the overall weight. Tannins are firm and supportive and this has a great juicy and fresh core that sustains the wine from start to finish. Much punchier than some of the other Médoc wines, this has push and persistence. Confident and characterful. Eric Boissenot consultant.

This shows aromas of blackcurrants and black cherries with cocoa, pine cones, toasted spices and nut shell. Medium-bodied with round and polished tannins and a fine texture. Some delicious fruit character coming through, turning to a chalky and crushed-stone yet juicy finish. Try in 2024.

The 2020 Sénéjac has held on to that seaweed-tinged bouquet, with plenty of attractive blackberry and bilberry fruit, and a strong estuarine influence at play here. The palate is medium-bodied, a little leaner than its peers, quite tensile, with a fresh, delineated finish. It has a spring in its step and should drink well for 12–15 years.

Cherries, currants and cocoa are on the nose and at the core of this wine. Medium-bodied, soft and vibrant, with a touch of chalk and oak that comes through on the mid-palate and into the fruit-filled finish. You can open and enjoy this upon release, or give it a bit of age as well. Drink from 2024–2038.

Aromatic herbal spiciness, ripe red-fruit cassis, medium-bodied with generous fruit, good oak integration, fresh and classic profile with good length.

Kunz barrel sample 2021: floral, light, herbaceous bouquet, red cherries, wood, green herbs. Light, fragrant palate with medium, sweet fruit, finely sandy tannins, slender structure, good aromatics, dry finish.

The 2020 Senejac is deep garnet-purple in color. It features expressive scents of blackberries, redcurrants, and raspberry leaves, followed by touches of garrigue and forest floor. The medium-bodied palate is soft and vibrant with a red berry lift on the finish.

The latest vintages are the most delightful we’ve known. The wines are alluring and downright indulgent, like the 2020, all about fruit and elegance, which is already remarkably indulgent.

On the nose, aromas of aromatic herbs and pine needle. Juicy, caressing on the palate, with the same pine-needle notes. Lively acidity.

Diligent and focused, the Sénéjac team leads this wine to commendable levels of precision. The wine shows a beautiful symbiosis between élevage notes and nuances of black-berry jam. It has good body, slightly suave tannins with grip, and a structure that has your back. A well-finished wine that deserves a short stint in the cellar.
