Supple and fleshy, ripe but not overly chewy, just enough to give this quite a plump and rounded expression. Lovely cooling blueberry scents - half ripe half fresh with fine, crisp tannins. Really well integrated and an enjoyable expression. Friendly, fun, powerful and out to please. Yummy with wet stone, slate and iron elements on the finish. Great stuff.

Licorice, smoke, crushed stones, flowers, and cherry aromatics open the perfume. The lusciously-textured palate offers vibrant, mineral-driven, red berries with elegance, lift, purity along with a blast of chocolate in the finish. There is so much concentration of soft, round, juicy fruits on the palate, you can enjoy this with just a year or two of aging. The wine blends 80% Merlot with 15% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. 14% ABV. The apparent reduction in the amount of new, French oak barrels for the aging added more freshness, and purity, which I like a lot. Drink from 2029-2050. 95-97 Pts

If you want to taste an estate that shows you what is the impact of limestone in the 2025 vintage, you can do a lot worse that heading here. Has the uplift and pincer movement of limestone, plenty of character, soft berry fruits, and a beautiful saline kick on the finish. Harvest September 10 to 30. 50% new oak. 30 hl/ha.Tasted twice. Marie and Jean-Christophe Lefévère owners, as at Sansonnet and now Valandraud, and now five years here at Villemaurine, so getting to know the vineyard. 50% new oak, with light toast.

Mint notes mingle with inviting aromas of blackcurrant and blackberry, complemented by a chalky touch and oak ageing that is noticeable yet not dominant. Generous and creamy on the attack, the wine stands out for its elegance and for the way it bridges charm and power. Its velvety, supple tannins provide excellent support and a comfortable framework. A savoury, indulgent wine to enjoy both young and with a bit of age.

Deep red color with purplish highlights. Intense. Very aromatic nose, fine, fruity, pure and subtle. A touch of vanilla when the glass is swirled. Precise on the attack, very refined on the mid-palate, with a graceful texture; the wine melts into the finish, long, sappy, fragrant, without the tannins standing out. Very good. Blend: 80% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. Alcohol: 14% - pH: 3.49. Yield: 36 hl/ha.

The elegance of a great limestone terroir in Saint-Émilion

    The estate

Located in the heart of the prestigious Bordeaux region, Château Villemaurine is a historic gem whose vineyard was unified in its current form in 1893. Now managed by the Lefevere family, this exceptional estate enjoys a prime location in the immediate vicinity of the famous medieval town. Renowned for its excellence, it stands out for its constant pursuit of quality, combining centuries-old heritage with modern facilities to enhance its unique terroir.

    The vineyard

The estate covers a single 7.30-hectare plot under production, ideally located on the famous plateau of Saint-Émilion. The vines, averaging 35 years of age, thrive on clay-limestone soils resting on a subsoil of asteriated limestone, ensuring excellent natural water regulation. Certified HVE 4, the property is committed to a rigorous environmental approach, favoring manual soil work, careful canopy management and a reasoned use of phytosanitary treatments.

    The vintage

The growing cycle of this year began under the best auspices with a particularly healthy spring. The season then continued with a summer marked by intense heat. Faced with these demanding climatic conditions, harvest dates were meticulously adjusted to ensure optimal ripeness of the berries.

    Winemaking and ageing

The harvest took place manually in crates between September 10 and 22. After double sorting, manual and densimetric, the berries enter the vats by gravity. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled double-walled stainless steel vats of 68 hl as well as in wooden vats, paced by punch-downs and pump-overs. Malolactic fermentation takes place in barrels. Finally, the wine is aged in 50% new French oak barrels, 30% small wooden vats and 20% one-year-old barrels. Alcohol content: 14% vol.

    Grape varieties

The blend of this Château Villemaurine 2025 is composed of 80% merlot, 15% cabernet franc and 5% cabernet sauvignon.
