    Description

Characteristics and tasting notes for the Auxey-Duresses 1er Cru 2024 by Comte Armand

    Tasting

    Colour
This red wine stands out for its impressive depth and striking visual intensity.

    Nose
Elegant and remarkably fresh, the bouquet reveals vibrant aromas of cool small red berries. It gains complexity with notes of undergrowth, fresh earth and damp forest, a sign of perfectly integrated oak.

    Palate
The palate shows remarkable density at its core, underpinned by a pronounced minerality evoking chalk, salinity and crushed stone. The finish, though youthful and slightly austere, reveals a firm structure and perfectly judged balance.

    Food and wine pairings

This food-friendly wine will pair beautifully with roast red meats, game dishes or a selection of aged cheeses.

    Serving and cellaring

Built to age gracefully, this Auxey-Duresses 1er Cru 2024 can be enjoyed after a few years of cellaring and will continue to develop until around 2040.

The elegance and minerality of an Auxey-Duresses Premier Cru from Domaine Comte Armand

    The estate

The estate's history officially began in 1828, when the Comte Armand family, who still own it today, added the famous Clos des Épeneaux to their holdings. Located in the heart of the village of Pommard in Burgundy, the estate now covers around 9 hectares. Run by estate manager Paul Zinetti, the domaine stands out for its pioneering commitment to organic and biodynamic viticulture. The house philosophy is founded on respect for the soil and biodiversity, producing wines that combine the natural power of their terroirs with a constant pursuit of finesse and elegance.

    The vineyard

The grapes come from two complementary premier cru plots in the Auxey-Duresses appellation: Les Breterins and Les Duresses. Covering around one hectare, these vines enjoy a favourable east and south-east exposure. The terroir consists of a mosaic of clay-limestone soils. The more clay-rich sections bring structure and density, while the chalky areas impart freshness and suppleness. The entire vineyard is farmed according to biodynamic principles, with ploughing and strict yield control to preserve the health of the vines.

    Winemaking and ageing

The grapes are harvested by hand to allow meticulous sorting of the berries. Vinification of this Auxey-Duresses 1er Cru 2024 favours gentle extraction, using indigenous yeasts only. The process includes a cold pre-fermentation maceration, followed by spontaneous fermentation and a post-fermentation maceration at controlled temperatures. The wine is aged in French oak barrels, 30% of them new for this vintage, lending an assertive structure while preserving the brightness of the fruit and its aromatic freshness.

    Grape variety

    Pinot Noir (100%).
