Couvent des Jacobins 2019

Fruity, also marked by oak; spicy attack, ripe in style, creamy, powdery tannins, a smoldering fire on the finish.

The full-intensity colour alone tells you there is Petit Verdot in this wine, underlined by black pepper spice on the attack. An excellent wine overall with great lift through the palate and a juicy feel to the black fruits. Good stuff. 3.76 pH, 15% new oak. Organic certified. Thomas Duclos consultant.

This is really succulent and juicy with brambleberry, wet-earth, bark and mushroom aromas and flavors. Crushed stones as well, with a slight saltiness. It’s full-to medium-bodied with creamy tannins and light chewiness at the finish. Needs time to soften, but very pretty already and typical for the vintage. A blend of 85% merlot, 10% cabernet franc and 5% petit verdot. Try after 2025.

Tasted blind. Bright, vigorous fruit on the nose. Rather soft fruit without much structure. Easy-peasy. (JR)

The 2019 Couvent des Jacobins showed well from barrel. Now in bottle, it has an expressive, well-defined nose of vivacious red fruit laced with rose petal and sous-bois, gently unfolding with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied and pliant, quite focused, and perhaps just a little less peppery than out of barrel, with a hint of herbaceousness popping on the fresh finish. Very fine. One for those who appreciate "classic" Saint-Émilion.

Silky, fresh, vibrant, and refined, a red-berry-driven wine with an olive and savory herbal edge on both nose and palate. You can enjoy it now or age it for a few years. Drink from 2023–2033.

The 2019 Couvent Des Jacobins is deep ruby/purple in color and offers a solid perfume of spiced black cherries, mulberries, dried herbs, tobacco, and iron. It’s medium-bodied on the palate, with solid tannins, good overall balance, and outstanding length. It’s a solid, thoroughly enjoyable 2019 to drink over the coming 10–15 years.

The 2019 Couvent des Jacobins, made from 85% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Petit Verdot, is deep garnet-purple in color. It prances out with pretty notes of kirsch, black raspberries, and rose oil, followed by suggestions of truffles and underbrush. The medium to full-bodied palate is soft, with energetic black and red berry layers and a mineral-laced finish.

An estate in organic conversion, owned by the Jean family since 1902. The bouquet is fresh and fruity, revealing notes of cherry and blackcurrant followed by a touch of vanilla. The palate shows an elegant, slightly creamy character. The tannins are silky and perfectly integrated, while the acid structure brings freshness. A delicious, inviting wine. What a great success!

Dark color, of normal intensity. Nose slightly discreet and fruity. The palate starts off fruity, shows savory appeal in the mid-palate, then becomes more astringent on the finish. Medium length.
