    Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the 2024 Pommard 1er Cru "Clos Blanc" from Domaine Albert Grivault

    Tasting Notes

    Appearance
This wine reveals a deep, dark red hue.

    Nose
Complex on the nose, it offers aromas of ripe red and black fruits, such as cherry and blackcurrant. It also opens up with spicy notes, earthy touches, as well as subtle nuances of oak and vanilla.

    Palate
The palate is full, fleshy and richly fruity. With beautiful density, it is built on powerful yet perfectly rounded tannins, offering a texture that is both robust and refined. The finish captivates with its lingering length, marked by fruit and spice.

    Food and Wine Pairings

This red wine pairs wonderfully with rich meats such as game, roasted red meats or stewed dishes. It also goes very well with roasted poultry, white meats in sauce, as well as hard or semi-hard aged cheeses, such as Comté.

The Uniqueness and Finesse of a Pommard Red Wine

    The Estate

Founded in 1879 by Albert Grivault, Domaine Albert Grivault is a historic family-owned estate located in Meursault, at the heart of Burgundy. Spanning six hectares of vines, the estate is renowned for its quality terroirs and its meticulous, plot-by-plot approach. Today, the estate is run by Claire Bardet, who has served as manager since 2004, alongside Henri Marc for winemaking and Michel Bardet for aging and sales. Although celebrated for its white wines, the estate stands out for producing a single red cuvée under the Pommard appellation.

    The Vineyard

The Pommard 1er Cru "Clos Blanc" comes from a historic 89-are plot, established in the 12th century by the Abbey of Cîteaux. Located at the bottom of the slope and benefiting from a north-south orientation, this Pommard terroir rests on soils made up of sandy clay, stony clay and calcareous marl. The vines, the oldest of which were planted in 1937, have an average age of around forty years. The vineyard is cultivated according to the principles of sustainable farming, with grapes harvested by hand.

    Winemaking and Aging

To craft the 2024 Pommard 1er Cru "Clos Blanc", the hand-harvested grapes undergo complete destemming to preserve the purity of the fruit. After a carefully controlled fermentation, the wine is aged for around 18 months in French oak barrels. The proportion of new oak is deliberately kept limited in order to refine the tannic structure without masking the authentic expression of the terroir.
