Tasting
Colour
The colour reveals a deep purple hue, both dark and vibrant.
Nose
The bouquet opens with deep aromas of red and black fruits such as cherry, blackcurrant and blueberry. Notes of wild berries intertwine with spicy touches of white pepper, enhanced by a delicate mineral hint of silica.
Palate
Powerful and well-structured, the palate offers rich, ripe fruit, supported by silky, finely integrated tannins. Vibrant acidity brings plenty of freshness, while the minerality of the terroir expresses itself through an elegant and subtly austere finish.
Food and wine pairing
This characterful red wine pairs wonderfully with flavourful dishes such as beef fillet with black truffles, roasted quail, porcini mushroom risotto or a duck and foie gras terrine.

The elegance and structure of a Saint-Joseph red wine
The estate
Founded in 1974 with the first commercial bottlings, Domaine Bernard Gripa is a family-run estate located in Mauves, in the heart of the northern Rhône Valley. Spanning 16 hectares, the estate stands out for its rare grape variety distribution, split equally between white and red varieties. Today, Fabrice Gripa is the sole owner and manager of the estate. A committed advocate of environmentally friendly viticulture, he favours traditional methods and manual work to fully express the authenticity of his terroirs.
The vineyard
The grapes come from historic plots within the Saint-Joseph appellation, located in the villages of Mauves and Tournon. Planted around 1920 on steep terraces, these very old vines thrive on complex soils composed of gneiss and Tournon primary granite. This exceptional terroir, cultivated without chemical herbicides, requires entirely manual work due to the steep slopes.
Winemaking and aging
To craft Le Berceau 2023, the grapes are harvested by hand with rigorous sorting. The harvest is 70% destemmed, retaining a portion of whole bunches. Fermentation takes place in open vats over two to three weeks, punctuated by two daily punch-downs and pump-overs for controlled extraction. The wine is then aged for a year in 228-litre oak barrels of varying ages, with limited use of new wood to preserve the brightness of the fruit.
