    Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Faustine "Vieilles Vignes" 2025 from Domaine Comte Abbatucci

    Tasting Notes

    Appearance
The colour reveals a cherry hue enhanced by brilliant ruby highlights.

    Nose
The aromatic bouquet reveals striking complexity, blending scents of wild red and black fruits, such as myrtle, with notes of pepper, leather, clove and sweet spices reminiscent of the maquis.

    Palate
Full-bodied and structured, the palate offers a velvety texture supported by fine, silky tannins. The balance is remarkable, leading to a long, intense finish dominated by black fruits and spices.

    Food and Wine Pairing

This red wine pairs beautifully with grilled or roasted meats, characterful smoked charcuterie, as well as aged pressed-curd cheeses.

    Serving and Cellaring

The Faustine "Vieilles Vignes" 2025 can be enjoyed in its youth to appreciate the brightness of its fruit, but it also has excellent ageing potential, allowing it to evolve favourably over several years.

The Authentic Expression of a Red Wine from Domaine Comte Abbatucci

    The Estate

Founded in 1950, Domaine Comte Abbatucci is located in the heart of the Taravo valley, in Corsica. Now run by Jean-Charles Abbatucci, joined by his daughter Faustine, the estate spans around a hundred hectares, about twenty of which are devoted to vines. A pioneer of biodynamic viticulture on the island, the estate is renowned for its ampelographic conservatory, a true sanctuary dedicated to preserving ancient native grape varieties. This holistic approach makes it possible to produce distinctive wines that faithfully reflect the richness of the island's terroir.

    The Vineyard

The vines thrive on hillsides of sandy granitic arenas, at an altitude of between 100 and 150 metres. This poor, well-drained terroir is farmed biodynamically, incorporating draft-horse ploughing and the presence of sheep in winter to preserve soil life. Although often classified as IGP Île de Beauté, this cru has sometimes been labelled as Vin de France, illustrating the freedom of expression the winemaker seeks in order to capture the aromas of the Mediterranean flora.

    The Vintage

The 2025 vintage stands out for the significant ripeness of its berries, most likely due to the warm, sunny weather conditions typical of the region. These meteorological factors allowed for optimal concentration while preserving the grapes' natural balance.

    Winemaking and Ageing

The harvest for the Faustine "Vieilles Vignes" 2025 is received by gravity, then destemmed without crushing. Fermentation starts spontaneously thanks to indigenous yeasts. A skin maceration of around one month takes place in concrete vats, punctuated by daily pump-overs. The wine is then aged on fine lees in stainless steel vats for around six months, before undergoing light clarifying filtration at bottling.
