    James Suckling

A seductive, serious and textural blend of grenache, syrah and mourvedre. The nose expresses notes of sweet cherries, roasted meat, dark plums, baking spices and a dash of cocoa powder. It’s full-bodied with finely grained tannins. Dense and harmonious with a focused finish of excellent length. From biodynamically grown grapes with Demeter certification. Drink or hold.

40% Grenache, 30% Mourvèdre, 30% Syrah. 15% is aged in oak casks. Certified organic and biodynamic (Demeter). Tank/cask sample. Tasted blind. Crushed forest fruits and blackberry nose. Generous mouthfeel with a mouth-coating richness, good concentration of dark fruits and a plush core. Energetic and pure finish. (AC)

Dark young colour with a purple hue. Nuanced nose offering garrigue, pepper, ripe plum, cassis, and tobacco notes. The palate is concentrated and rich with layers of fragrant dark fruit, with spicy garrigue notes, underlined by a fresh acidity and a long meaty finish.

The 2022 Lirac Cuvée De La Reine Des Bois checks in as 40% Syrah and the rest equal parts Grenache and Mourvèdre. It's a killer bottle of wine that has both red and black fruits intermixed with notions of peppery garrigue, flowers, melted licorice, and graphite. With a rare level of purity and precision, it's medium to full-bodied, has a supple, layered mouthfeel, fine tannins, and a great finish.

    Description

The elegance and purity of a great Lirac wine

    The estate

Founded in 1986 in France by Francis and Christophe Delorme, Domaine de la Mordorée quickly established itself as a benchmark of the southern Rhône Valley. Located at the crossroads of Provence and Languedoc, this family-run estate spans around sixty hectares. Since Christophe's passing in 2015, his wife Madeleine and their daughter Ambre Delorme have run the estate with the same pursuit of excellence. Deeply committed to environmental respect, they carry on a demanding philosophy that has elevated their cuvées among the finest expressions of the region.

    The vineyard

The vineyard dedicated to the Lirac appellation lies on magnificent Villafranchian terraces situated between 80 and 120 metres above sea level. The vines flourish on soils made up of rolled pebbles, which store daytime heat and release it at night, resting on a subsoil of red clay and sand. Deeply committed to environmental practices, the estate is certified organic, biodynamic (Demeter), and holds High Environmental Value certification. Yields are deliberately kept low, and vineyard work such as bud thinning and harvesting is carried out by hand to preserve biodiversity and soil vitality.

    Winemaking and aging

The creation of the Lirac Rouge "La Reine des Bois" 2022 is the result of meticulous care. After rigorous sorting, the berries are fully destemmed and lightly crushed. Maceration lasts around thirty days at controlled temperatures, encouraging gentle extraction through indigenous yeasts. The aging process is then designed to enhance the fruit and the terroir: 85% of the wine rests in concrete or stainless steel tanks, while the remaining 15% ages in used oak barrels, avoiding excessive woody influence.

    Grape varieties

This wine is a blend of 40% Syrah, 30% Grenache and 30% Mourvèdre.

Characteristics and tasting tips for the Lirac Rouge "La Reine des Bois" 2022 Domaine de la Mordorée

    Tasting notes

    Color
A deep, dark red hue appears in the glass, enhanced by profound bluish reflections.

    Nose
Complex and expressive, the aromatic bouquet opens with intense notes of red and black fruits such as blackberry, blackcurrant, and raspberry, lifted by a floral touch of violet. With aeration, notes of garrigue, pepper, melted licorice, and a subtle minerality reminiscent of graphite come to enrich the whole.

    Palate
The palate reveals a texture that is at once supple, full-bodied, and perfectly balanced. Carried by remarkably fine tannins, the texture unfolds with elegance through to a lingering finish of remarkable freshness.

    Food and wine pairing

This cuvée will pair wonderfully with grilled red meats, roasted lamb, or dishes in sauce. It will also enhance feathered game, as well as characterful soft cheeses.
