    Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Romanée-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru "Marey-Monge" 2015 from Domaine de la Romanée-Conti

    Tasting

    Appearance
The colour reveals a deep, brilliant red hue.

    Nose
The bouquet proves particularly expressive. It exudes aromas of red and black fruits (raspberry, black cherry, wild strawberry) intertwined with delicate floral notes of rose and violet. The whole is enriched by touches of sweet spices, cocoa, earth and a subtle wild dimension, all beautifully melded with an already well-integrated oak character.

    Palate
Full-bodied and supple, the palate delivers a dense texture that coats the mouth with elegance. The tannic structure, both firm and remarkably fine, supports a persistent, uplifting finish of remarkable length.

    Food and Wine Pairing

This red wine pairs beautifully with fine meats such as beef fillet, veal or game like venison and pheasant. It will also enhance delicate poultry with cream and wild mushrooms, as well as dishes featuring black truffle.

    Serving and Cellaring

For optimal enjoyment, this wine is best served between 16 and 18 °C. In its youth, decanting for one to two hours will be beneficial. This Romanée-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru "Marey-Monge" 2015 can be cellared to evolve until around 2050.

The Elegance and Aromatic Complexity of a Vosne-Romanée Wine

    The Estate

Located in Vosne-Romanée in Burgundy (France), the legendary Domaine de la Romanée-Conti traces its historical origins back to the 12th century, although its civil company was only established in 1942. Today, this approximately 25.5-hectare estate is managed by Perrine Fenal and Bertrand de Villaine, representing the two owning families, Leroy and Gaudin de Villaine. Renowned worldwide for its extreme rigour and the rarity of its bottles, the estate cultivates a unique heritage of prestigious terroirs. Its identity is built on meticulous biodynamic viticulture, aimed at expressing the purest quintessence of each parcel.

    The Vineyard

The Romanée-Saint-Vivant grand cru extends over a gently sloping hillside facing east and south-east. The estate cultivates roughly half of the appellation. The vines thrive on deep brown limestone soils around 90 centimetres deep, rich in clay and resting on a bedrock of Premeaux limestone. The entire vineyard is farmed according to biodynamic principles, with regular ploughing and deliberately limited yields to ensure optimal grape quality.

    The Vintage

The year 2015 was marked by warm, dry weather with a particularly summery feel. This generous sunshine allowed the berries to reach excellent ripeness, while cool nights preserved an ideal balance. The harvest, carried out by hand in mid-September, yielded a healthy and concentrated crop.

    Winemaking and Ageing

The harvest undergoes an extremely rigorous sorting process before being placed in vats as whole clusters. Extraction takes place gently over about three weeks, punctuated by measured punching down and pumping over. This Romanée-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru "Marey-Monge" 2015 is then aged entirely in new oak barrels, allowing the wine to develop its structure while preserving the delicacy of its aromas.
