    Description

Characteristics and Tasting Tips for the Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru "Les Loups" 2023 from Domaine des Lambrays

    Tasting

    Appearance
    Deep, even ruby-purple.

    Nose
The bouquet unfolds gradually with aromas of red fruit, wild blackberries and heather, which open up elegantly. This aromatic expression offers beautiful freshness, accompanied by characteristic minerality. The 40% whole bunches bring a subtle note of white pepper, which rounds off the whole harmoniously.

    Palate
The attack reveals a medium-bodied wine with fine and silky tannins. The texture is particularly balanced thanks to elegant acidity that structures the whole. The mid-palate reveals a certain sweetness with a delicate hint of dark chocolate, while the finish remains controlled and refined.

    Serving and Cellaring
Serve the Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru "Les Loups" 2023 at a temperature of 16-17°C, after opening it three hours in advance, without decanting or re-corking. This wine has a cellaring potential until about 2036.

A lively Premier Cru from Morey-Saint-Denis with silky tannins

    The Estate
Domaine des Lambrays was founded in 1868 following the reunification of the Clos by Albert-Sebastien Rodier. Located on 8.70 hectares in Morey-Saint-Denis in the Côte de Nuits, this Burgundy estate has belonged to LVMH since 2014 under the direction of Jacques Devauges. Recognized as a Grand Cru in 1981, it represents the largest Clos in Burgundy held almost entirely in sole ownership.

    The Vineyard
The vines of the Morey-Saint-Denis "Les Loups" Premier Cru come from three different plots: La Riotte, Les Blanchards and Le Village, which together cover 0.8534 hectares. These terroirs benefit from relatively deep soils of 60 to 90 centimeters with a high clay content. The 40 to 60-year-old vines take root in these generous soils, which give the wine its particular structure.

    The Vintage
The 2023 vintage began with early budburst on April 7, followed by favourable flowering in early June. The hot summer in July and August, punctuated by regular rainfall, favoured berry growth and ripening. A significant green harvest at the end of July allowed yields to be controlled plot by plot. The harvest took place on September 14 under bright sunshine and reached a yield of 40 hectoliters per hectare.

    Winemaking and Ageing
The Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru "Les Loups" 2023 results from the co-fermentation of the three Premier Cru plots in wooden vats for about three weeks. 40% of the harvest was vinified as whole bunches with indigenous yeasts, with everything moved exclusively by gravity. Ageing took place over eighteen months in oak barrels, 40% of which were new wood.

    Grape Variety

100% Pinot Noir, the emblematic Burgundy grape variety.
