    Description

Characteristics and tasting notes for the Savigny-Les-Beaune Village 2024 from Domaine du Château de Meursault

    Tasting notes

    Colour
With a deep cherry-red hue, the colour reveals garnet nuances reminiscent of the black tulip.

    Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with notes of fresh red fruits such as raspberry, cherry and blackcurrant. It is enriched by floral touches of violet, mingled with aromas of macerated stone fruits and liquorice.

    Palate
The palate offers a silky texture carried by delicate, smooth tannins. Round, balanced and subtly full-bodied, this wine stands out for its great purity, freshness and the precision of its fruity expression.

    Food and wine pairing
This red wine pairs wonderfully with red or white meats, such as roasted or glazed poultry, roast veal, flavourful beef or pan-seared foie gras. It also enhances soft cheeses such as Mont-d'Or, Tomme, Brie de Meaux or Reblochon.

    Service and storage
For optimal tasting, it is recommended to serve this wine at a temperature between 15 and 16°C. It can continue to age in the cellar and will ideally be enjoyed until around 2032.

The elegance and freshness of a red wine from Burgundy

    The estate
Founded in the eleventh century, Domaine du Château de Meursault is an essential historic figure in Burgundy. Acquired in 2012 by Olivier Halley, the current owner, the estate has undergone a spectacular revival, combining heritage preservation with sustainable viticulture. Spanning 67 hectares, the estate has been fully certified organic since 2022. Under the direction of Stéphane Follin-Arbelet, the estate favours a low-intervention approach, allowing each terroir to express its unique character with the utmost authenticity.

    The vineyard
The Savigny-Les-Beaune vineyard extends to the north of the Côte de Beaune on soils composed of gravel, reddish-brown limestone, clay and stones. Subject to a continental climate, the estate's vines are cultivated according to strict organic farming principles. Guyot Poussard pruning is favoured to respect sap flow, while biodiversity corridors promote soil life, giving the vines excellent resilience and optimal health.

    The vintage
The year 2024 put the vineyard to the test with extreme weather conditions. A particularly wet spring caused strong disease pressure, followed by localised hail in May and a difficult flowering period. Fortunately, a mild September, marked by wind and beautiful sunshine, helped save the harvest by allowing the berries to reach ideal ripeness. Although yields are historically low, this natural concentration gave rise to grapes of remarkable quality and aromatic finesse.

    Winemaking and aging
The grapes were hand-harvested into small perforated crates, followed by rigorous optical sorting. In the cellar, the philosophy favours gentleness: a five-day cold pre-fermentation maceration precedes slow fermentations. Extraction is deliberately moderate, limiting punch-downs in favour of gentle pump-overs, in order to preserve finesse and achieve a texture with silky tannins.
