    Decanter

    This is produced from three of the four Faiveley parcels in the Clos de Bèze. After a fermentation largely with whole clusters and ageing in cask (70% new), the wine is deeply aromatic, showing an array of aromas that range from ripe cassis and plum fruit to savoury and smoky notes with a mineral/saline edge. The texture of the wine is tannic, massively concentrated and firm, yet not unyielding. Superb.

    The 2019 Chambertin Clos-de-Bèze Grand Cru is already showing a little maturity on the nose. It has a perfumed bouquet with red cherries and crushed strawberry, damp moss and a touch of oyster shell. It comes together in the glass and gains in complexity. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, perfectly judged acidity, lively red fruit and a slightly viscous texture. Concentrated but not overpowering, it retains wonderful focus and lingers temptingly on the finish. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

    The property

    Anchored in Nuits-Saint-Georges since 1825, in the heart of the Côte de Nuits, the Domaine Faiveley stands as one of the historical jewels of Burgundy's wine-growing region. Since 2005, the seventh family generation, represented by Erwan and Eve Faiveley, passionately and rigorously perpetuates the legacy of this exceptional estate. With a vineyard of over 120 hectares, Faiveley stands out not only for its size - one of the largest in the region - but also for the richness of its terroir, boasting prestigious plots in Grands Crus and Premiers Crus.

    The vineyard

    Initially established in Côte de Nuits, Domaine Faiveley has expanded its footprint over the decades by extending to the Côte de Beaune and the Côte Chalonnaise. Today, this essential Burgundy estate operates a remarkable heritage composed of 12 Grands Crus and 25 Premiers Crus, reflecting a constant quest for diversity and excellence.

    The wine

    Since the 1930s, Domaine Faiveley has been the main owner of the Chambertin-Clos de Bèze appellation. Three emblematic plots - "Vieilles Vignes", "Clos de Bèze Haut" and "Grands Rangs" - embody this mastery of the terroir. The Clos de Bèze, a true gem, extends over 1.29 hectares of limestone soils and houses vines planted between 1949 and 1983, revealing all the depth of an exceptional terroir.

    Vinification and aging

    Harvested by hand, the grapes undergo a short pre-fermentation maceration before being vinified in truncated wooden vats. The vatting, lasting more than three weeks, is followed by a gentle pressing aimed at preserving the purity of the juice. The aging, carried out in the 19th-century vaulted cellars of the estate, lasts between 16 and 18 months in French oak barrels (of which 60% are new barrels and 40% have contained a wine).
