    Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru Joseph Faiveley 2022

    Tasting

    Colour
This red wine reveals a deep ruby hue, remarkable for its brilliance and clarity.

    Nose
Generous and complex, the aromatic bouquet opens with notes of red berries such as raspberry, cherry and blackcurrant. With aeration, delicate floral notes of peony and violet emerge, underscored by subtle spicy touches.

    Palate
The attack is generous and beautifully elegant. The palate offers a rich texture supported by silky, perfectly integrated tannins. The balance between the opulence of ripe red fruit, nuances of undergrowth and a fine minerality stretches into an impressively long finish.

    Food and Wine Pairing

This grand cru pairs wonderfully with roasted poultry or feathered game, such as duck or goose. It also shines alongside flavourful meats such as rib of beef, lamb or venison, as well as soft-rind cheeses like Brie or Camembert.

    Service and Storage

To fully appreciate this wine, it is recommended to serve it between 12 and 14°C in its youth, or between 14 and 16°C after a few years in the cellar. Gentle decanting for one to two hours before serving is advised. This wine has exceptional ageing potential and can evolve harmoniously for more than twenty years.

The Elegance and Complexity of a Grand Cru from Burgundy by Domaine Faiveley

    The Estate

Founded in 1825 in Nuits-Saint-Georges, Domaine Faiveley is a true institution in Burgundy. This family estate spans more than 120 hectares of vines across the region's most prestigious terroirs. Today, the seventh generation, embodied by Erwan and Eve Faiveley, leads the estate. Combining respect for centuries-old traditions with a modern vision, the estate stands out for its strong environmental commitment, illustrated by its conversion to organic viticulture.

    The Vineyard

The terroir of Charmes-Chambertin lies on a plot located on the Côte de Nuits. Facing east to capture the first rays of the sun, the vines thrive at altitudes between 240 and 280 metres. The shallow soil is composed of brown clay mixed with limestone, lava and iron ore, giving the wine all its finesse and minerality.

    The Vintage

The year 2022 began with a mild winter that helped replenish water reserves. Following bud break in early April and a generally dry spring, June brought exceptional and much-needed rainfall. Summer then set in with regular heatwaves and dry weather, allowing for a gradual and optimal ripening of the berries until the harvest began in early September.

    Winemaking and Aging

The grapes are hand-harvested and rigorously sorted. Fully destemmed but not crushed, the berries are transferred to the vat by gravity. Maceration lasts nineteen days, using exclusively indigenous yeasts. The wine is then aged on the lees for fifteen months, with 40% new French oak barrels lightly toasted, before being bottled by gravity.

    Grape Variety

    Pinot Noir (100%).
