    Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru "Aux Chaignots" 2023 Domaine Faiveley

    Tasting

    Colour
The colour reveals a beautiful red hue.

    Nose
The aromatic bouquet is expressive and complex, blending red fruit aromas such as cherry and raspberry with delicate floral notes. Subtle woody, smoky, and mineral touches add further richness to the whole.

    Palate
The palate offers a creamy texture and a silky structure remarkable for the appellation. The balance is perfect between structural power and finesse, revealing vibrant berry flavours underscored by nuances of undergrowth. The rounded tannins bring great harmony through to a deep, lingering finish.

    Food and Wine Pairing

This wine pairs beautifully with roasted poultry, particularly duck, as well as braised pork dishes. Its notes of undergrowth also make it an ideal companion for mushroom-based preparations or delicate game such as roe deer. It is advisable to avoid overly spicy or heavily charred dishes in order to preserve its aromatic subtlety.

    Service and Storage

With its fine structure, this Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru "Aux Chaignots" 2023 has excellent aging potential, allowing it to evolve favourably in bottle for many years to come.

The Elegance and Complexity of a Great Nuits-Saint-Georges Wine

    The Estate

Founded in 1825 by Pierre Faiveley, Domaine Faiveley is a true institution in Burgundy, France. Now run by the seventh generation, embodied by Erwan and Eve Faiveley, the estate spans approximately 130 hectares of vines spread across prestigious terroirs. The domaine stands out for its approach, combining the scale of a great family house with a meticulous production philosophy centred on the pure expression of terroir and respect for the environment, having successfully completed its conversion to organic farming.

    The Vineyard

The "Aux Chaignots" climat is located on the north-facing slope of the Nuits-Saint-Georges appellation, halfway up the hillside. The estate's plot, covering approximately 0.73 hectares, rests on soils composed of brown limestone and gravel. This vineyard is home to vines of varying ages, planted in 1927, 1965, and 2019, offering a balance between the concentration of old vines and the freshness of the younger ones.

    The Vintage

The year 2023 began with a cool spring followed by ideal flowering in early June. A heatwave at the end of August and the beginning of September helped accelerate phenolic ripeness and concentrate the sugars. Thanks to rigorous green harvesting to control the year's generous yields, this vintage offers grapes of outstanding quality, combining volume, depth, and optimal ripeness.

    Winemaking and Aging

After rigorous manual selection and meticulous sorting, the bunches destined for this Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru "Aux Chaignots" 2023 are transferred by gravity into wooden vats. Fermentation begins with indigenous yeasts, followed by gentle pressing. Aging then takes place in the estate's historic cellars, in French oak barrels, about half of which are new, to bring subtle complexity without masking the brilliance of the fruit.
