    Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Pommard 1er Cru "Les Rugiens" 2023 Domaine Faiveley

    Tasting

    Colour
The colour reveals a deep ruby red hue.

    Nose
Wonderfully complex, the nose reveals aromas of black cherries and wild berries, enhanced by subtle spicy touches of white pepper. With aeration, mineral nuances, delicately woody notes and scents of undergrowth unfold with elegance.

    Palate
The palate offers a structure that is both powerful and refined, supported by velvety tannins. Delicious notes of black fruits, spices and bitter chocolate balance perfectly with a lovely acidity, leading to a long, persistent finish with a mineral thread.

    Food and Wine Pairing

This red wine pairs beautifully with flavourful meats such as wild boar, venison or duck. It also enhances beef dishes served with robust mushroom or herb sauces, as well as matured cheeses with umami notes such as Époisses, Langres or Soumaintrain.

    Service and Storage

For optimal enjoyment, it is recommended to serve the Pommard 1er Cru "Les Rugiens" 2023 at a temperature between 14 and 16°C, taking care to decant it between thirty minutes and two hours beforehand. This wine of great longevity can be enjoyed in its youth, but will continue to evolve favourably and can be enjoyed until around 2048.

The Authentic Expression of a Great Pommard Terroir by Domaine Faiveley

    The Estate

Founded in 1825 by Pierre Faiveley in Nuits-Saint-Georges, Domaine Faiveley stands as a true institution in Burgundy, France. Now led by the seventh generation, embodied by brother and sister Erwan and Eve Faiveley, the estate oversees a vast vineyard of 120 hectares spread across more than thirty prestigious appellations. Combining respect for family traditions with a contemporary vision, the estate is distinguished by its deep commitment to sustainable viticulture, illustrated by a complete conversion to organic farming, all while continuing to shine around the world.

    The Vineyard

Located on the upper, prestigious part of the Climat Les Rugiens, the estate's 0.49-hectare plot benefits from an ideal south-east exposure. This iconic Pommard terroir is characterised by a steep slope and clay-limestone soils particularly rich in iron oxide, giving the soil its typical reddish hue. The old vines, planted in 1953, draw deeply into this well-draining soil to express the full mineral complexity of the appellation, all cultivated according to the demanding principles of organic farming.

    The Vintage

The year 2023 began with a mild, dry winter, followed by a spring spared from frost thanks to early budburst. May and June proved particularly dry and sunny, encouraging vigorous vine growth that required extensive green harvesting. While the end of summer raised some questions about ripeness, two successive heatwaves in late August and early September accelerated the vegetative cycle, providing ideal conditions for a harvest of perfect balance.

    Winemaking and Aging

After rigorous manual and optical sorting of the berries, the winemaking of the Pommard 1er Cru "Les Rugiens" 2023 involves precise temperature control and regular punching down to extract colour and aromas while preserving finesse. The wine is then aged in oak barrels, with a proportion of 30% new wood and 70% neutral barrels, adding subtle complexity without masking the identity of the terroir.
