    Description

Tasting Notes and Recommendations for the Vin Jaune Arbois 2017 from Domaine Grand

    Tasting

    Color

The color reveals an intense, brilliant golden hue, characteristic of extended aging under a veil of yeast.

    Nose

Powerful and distinctive, the nose opens on aromas of fresh walnut, accompanied by notes of curry and spices. Hints of apple and dried fruits complete this complex bouquet.

    Palate

The attack is straightforward, followed by a broad, powerful mid-palate. The balance between richness and acidity is beautifully expressed. The seemingly endless finish lingers on walnut and spices.

    Food and wine pairings

This Vin Jaune pairs wonderfully with Bresse chicken with morels, aged Comté, or curry-based dishes. It also elevates coq au vin jaune, an emblematic regional specialty.

    Serving and cellaring

This Vin Jaune 2017 offers tremendous cellaring potential over several decades. It can be enjoyed now or kept to reveal even greater complexity over time.

A Jura Vin Jaune with a powerful, authentic expression

    The estate

Established in Passenans in the Jura since 1692, Domaine Grand is a family estate passed down through nine generations. Emmanuel and Nathalie Grand now run this 25-hectare property, farmed using sustainable viticulture. Their approach favors quality over quantity, while respecting Jura’s winemaking traditions and the environment.

    The vineyard

The savagnin vines behind this Vin Jaune are planted on marl soils, a favored terroir for this emblematic Jura grape variety. These distinctive geological conditions give the wine its characteristic minerality and exceptional aging potential. The Arbois area, close to Passenans, shares these terroirs that are ideally suited to crafting outstanding wines.

    Winemaking and aging

The Vin Jaune 2017 is made according to the traditional Jura method. After fermentation, the wine is aged for six years and three months in oak barrels under a veil of yeast, without topping up. This ancestral technique allows complex aromas and a unique structure to develop, the signature of the great Vin Jaune wines of the Jura.
