Description
Characteristics and tasting tips for the Blagny 1er Cru "La Pièce sous le Bois" 2024 from Domaine Matrot
Tasting
Colour
The wine displays a beautiful ruby hue of medium intensity, which may take on deeper tints depending on the concentration of the vintage.
Nose
The nose opens with an expressive bouquet of fresh red and black fruit, such as raspberry, wild strawberry and blackcurrant. It is enriched by spicy notes, floral touches reminiscent of violet, and subtle hints of liquorice or fine leather.
Palate
On the palate, this wine offers a structure that is both supple and firm, carried by silky, delicate tannins. A lovely mineral freshness, typical of its limestone terroir, lends tension right through to a long, juicy finish of fruit and spice.
Food and wine pairing
This wine pairs beautifully with roast or braised poultry, such as guinea fowl with rosemary, as well as with white meats like veal or pork. It is also an excellent match for mushroom risotto, roasted root vegetables, or moderately pungent Burgundian washed-rind cheeses.
Serving and cellaring
To fully appreciate the Blagny 1er Cru "La Pièce sous le Bois" 2024, serve it at around 16°C, ideally decanting it 30 to 60 minutes before tasting while it is young. Blessed with a promising freshness, this age-worthy wine can be cellared until around 2039.
Other characteristics
This wine stands out for its moderate alcohol content, generally around 13%, as well as its relatively low pH, which gives it great stability and vibrant freshness.
The freshness and minerality of a Blagny Premier Cru
The estate
Founded in 1835, Domaine Matrot is a historic name in Burgundy, deeply rooted in the heart of the Côte de Beaune. Covering around 24 hectares of vineyards, this family estate stands out for its early commitment to environmentally friendly viticulture. Today, sisters Adèle and Elsa Matrot are at the helm. They carry on the expertise of six generations, combining tradition and modernity while precisely showcasing the dual vocation of their terroirs, which are capable of producing white and red wines of great finesse.
The vineyard
The historic Blagny plot, part of the family heritage since 1900, lies on the upper slopes of the appellation. This distinctive terroir rests on shallow, stony limestone and marl soils that benefit from excellent ventilation. The vines, around 35 years old, are farmed according to organic principles, with regular ploughing, the use of organic manure and strict yield control to ensure optimal concentration in the grapes.
Winemaking and ageing
The grapes for the Blagny 1er Cru "La Pièce sous le Bois" 2024 are harvested by hand. They are fully destemmed before undergoing a cold pre-fermentation maceration lasting a few days. Fermentation then begins naturally with indigenous yeasts, punctuated by regular punching down and pumping over. The wine is aged for 15 months in Burgundian oak barrels, with a measured proportion of 20% new oak. After racking, it rests for three months in tank before being lightly filtered and bottled.
