A great white Burgundy from Domaine Matrot
The estate
Located in the heart of Burgundy, Domaine Matrot was truly established in its current form in 1914, when Joseph Matrot settled in Meursault. Today, Adèle and Elsa Matrot run this family estate of around 24 hectares. Committed to an environmentally friendly approach, the estate carries on a historic expertise by favoring minimal-intervention winemaking. It is particularly renowned for its mastery of the great terroirs of the Côte de Beaune and the purity of its wines.
The vineyard
The Chardonnay vines, averaging 35 years old, thrive on the terroir of Meursault. This distinctive cru owes its uniqueness to clay-limestone soil resting on a subsoil particularly rich in limestone, which gives the wine its mineral identity.
The vintage
In the Côte de Beaune, 2024 was marked by fairly cool weather, allowing the white grapes to retain good acidity. However, the growing cycle was disrupted by mildew outbreaks and a difficult flowering period that led to fruit-set issues, resulting in a yield decrease of around 25%.
Winemaking and aging
For this 2024 Meursault, the grapes are hand-harvested at a date determined through careful monitoring of ripeness. They are then pressed as whole clusters using a pneumatic press. After twenty-four hours of settling, the juice is racked and transferred into barrels. Alcoholic fermentation takes place at controlled temperatures thanks to indigenous yeasts, followed by complete malolactic fermentation. The wine ages on its lees for twelve months in oak barrels aged between one and four years. Finally, it rests for three months in tank before potential fining and lenticular filtration ahead of bottling.
