Description
Characteristics and tasting advice for the Bourgogne Chardonnay 2024 by Domaine Matrot
Tasting
Appearance
The wine displays a pale yellow to bright lemon-yellow hue of great clarity, sometimes enhanced by subtle golden highlights.
Nose
Rich and precise, the nose reveals aromas of white and yellow fruits such as peach, apricot and ripe pear. It is further enriched by indulgent notes of nuts, including hazelnut and toasted sesame, along with pastry touches reminiscent of crème anglaise.
Palate
Broad and pleasingly rich, the palate charms with its dense, deep texture. A fine acidic tension balances the whole, drawing the tasting out towards a long finish marked by buttery, brioche-like nuances.
Food and wine pairing
This white wine pairs beautifully with delicate fish, crustaceans or shellfish such as pan-seared scallops. It also makes an excellent match for poultry and white meats in a creamy sauce, gratins of Mediterranean vegetables, and pressed cheeses such as a young Comté or a Beaufort.
The elegance and purity of a white Burgundy crafted by Domaine Matrot
The estate
Located in Meursault, in the heart of the Côte de Beaune in Burgundy, Domaine Matrot draws on a family heritage dating back to 1835, although its current legal structure was formally established in 2000. Today, sisters Adèle and Elsa Matrot run this vineyard of around 24 hectares. A pioneer of the ecological transition, the estate abandoned chemical products as early as the 1970s in favour of organic practices. The domaine is renowned for wines that combine purity, energy and a deep respect for terroir.
The vineyard
The Bourgogne Chardonnay cuvée is a meticulous blend of several plots located within the Meursault commune, complemented by a vineyard planted on the Hautes-Côtes de Beaune plateau. The vines thrive on clay-limestone soils, which promote both concentration and freshness in the berries. The entire vineyard is farmed according to the principles of organic agriculture, with grapes harvested by hand to preserve fruit quality.
Winemaking and ageing
The winemaking of the Bourgogne Chardonnay 2024 follows a minimal-intervention yet highly precise approach. The long fermentations start naturally thanks to indigenous yeasts. The wine is then aged on its lees for 11 to 12 months in oak barrels between one and five years old, limiting the influence of new wood and preserving the brightness of the fruit.
Grape variety
100% Chardonnay.
