    Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes of the Volnay 1er Cru "Santenots" 2023 from Domaine Pierre Morey

    Tasting

    Colour
With beautiful intensity, the visual reveals a deep red hue.

    Nose
The aromatic bouquet reveals delicious notes of fruit such as cherry and plum, accompanied by floral touches of violet and subtle spicy, earthy nuances.

    Palate
The palate offers a concentrated, structured framework, supported by powdery tannins. The clay of the terroir brings a lovely roundness that balances with a chalky, lingering finish.

    Food and wine pairing

This red wine pairs perfectly with roasted or glazed poultry, feathered game, as well as offal such as kidneys. It also goes very well with risotto, sautéed vegetables or cheeses such as brie and camembert.

    Service and storage

This Volnay 1er Cru "Santenots" 2023 has excellent ageing potential. It can be cellared and enjoyed until around 2038.

The minerality and power of a Volnay Premier Cru

    The estate

Rooted in the magnificent wine-growing landscape of Burgundy, the renowned family estate known as Domaine Pierre Morey was officially founded in 1971, although the family has been cultivating vines in Meursault since 1793. This vineyard of around ten hectares is recognised for its pioneering approach to biodynamic farming, certified since the early 2000s. Today, day-to-day management is handled by Anne Morey, supported by her father Pierre as co-manager, while her son Jean-Victor joined the team in 2020. This family succession ensures respect for the terroirs and meticulous winemaking.

    The vineyard

Although it carries the prestigious Volnay appellation, the Santenots climat is geographically located in the commune of Meursault, benefiting from an east-facing exposure. The estate cultivates a small 0.35-hectare plot here within the Les Pétures lieu-dit, whose vines were planted on average in 1974. The terroir is distinguished by clay-limestone soil, blending reddish, iron-rich limestone in its lower section with chalkier nuances at higher altitude, giving the grapes a pronounced mineral identity.

    Winemaking and ageing

The production of this Volnay 1er Cru "Santenots" 2023 is based on strict biodynamic principles. Fermentation begins spontaneously thanks to the indigenous yeasts present on the berries. For extraction, the use of stems is carefully limited to 20%. The wine then benefits from a long maturation period, with ageing extending from 12 to 24 months, allowing for a slow, patient evolution.
