    Decanter

The palest of the Faiveley family's mouthwatering array of grand cru reds, this is almost indecently scented, sensuous and appealing. Red cherry and raspberry flavors playfully combine on the palate, framed by understated oak and crunchy acidity.

Cask sample. Mid cherry red. Seductive dark-red fruit, but you can tell there is more to come. Dry, rather leaner than I expected on the palate, could do with a little more fruit depth at the core, but it’s balanced and elegant. (JH)

The 2017 Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru has a fulsome, seductive bouquet of maraschino cherries, crushed strawberry, orange blossom and light tangerine aromas. The palate is almost pixelated on the entry and shows wonderful acidity and mineralité. Tensile from beginning to end, culminating in a vivid, almost sorbet-fresh finish. This is a superb Mazis. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting.

Roasted notes and cocoa bean on the nose of this lofty wine, impressive for its tension and nerve, whose muscular flesh will carry it a very long way.
